What do you mean? When more than one tab is open, the option to Add all tabs to bookmarks appears on the save dialog.

Or where you talking about soemthing else?

Shana - Yeah, I miss the groups options, too. I had some important web sites stored there and now I'll probably end up doing a system restore to go back to the old Avant. They should tell us what they remove in the "What's New" or add a "What's Missing" in the version history. Still, Avant browser is the only way to go.

You don't have a Groups folder in your Bookmarks menu?

If not, try File -> Import -> Groups from the Old Version of Avant Browser.

Thanks, hornakapopolis!
I'm glad to have access to the "groups" again, but the old groups feature was more convenient. Thanks.

The menu option will still be gone, but the functionality can be returned by reverting back to IE Favorites. Tools -> Avant Browser Options -> Miscellaneous -> Use IE Favorites as Bookmarks.

Just note that using IE's Favorites disabled saving bookmarks online.

Add me as one more long time user who misses Groups as a separate menu item. Likewise, I'd sure like to be able to have a selection from Groups open in a new tab. It's probably impractical to make everything a user option, but I'd still love to see these two items as options.

Please add Groups back. Heck, it had auto-naming and was quick!

I don't get it. Why do developers come up with a cool idea and then later remove it or make it more difficult. It's like they get bored with it or something and just have to move it, remove it, or change it. Like Microsoft hiding menus items - 1) basic users can't find their desired menu item and 2) we have an extra step to click on the down arrows to reveal hidden items, or 3) you have to go looking for a work-around or other option or write a script to put it back the way it was. And yet it was so good before.

Compare to Avant Browser where they invented Groups with auto-name but then use lots of development time changing it back to bookmarks and adding extra steps for the user (like naming the folders/groups yourself). Yikes. :?

I love AvantBrowser though, which is why I'm bothering to vent my frustrations.

Follow-up to my own post  ...

I tried the option of :

Tools -> Avant Browser Options -> Miscellaneous -> Use IE Favorites as bookmakrs

Yes! It brings the Groups back! Thanks.

But please put Groups back under the main menus instead of under Bookmarks. If menu real estate is a problem, just give us an Avant Browser Option for us to choose whether or not we display the Groups menu item. Simple solution, right?

Please bring the feature back where it was!
I want it to be exactly where it was as a separate item and not under bookmarks.
I love Avant just for the Groups feature and I want it back.

New Avant seems to be nice, but I might have to rollback to a previous version because of the Groups-****-up :-(

Why should Anderson bring back a feature which is already in?
Thanks Anderson for checking out my AB 11.0 feature request list,
now it's time to go on with 11.8:

We keep asking for them to reutrn since they were removed. I'm afraid that they'd already be back, if there was a chance. :-(

My two cents worth of complete agreement. Groups being in the menu bar was one of the things I loved most about Avant. I'm going back to the old version until such a time as that tool is restored.
Also, I've relied heavily on the Links toolbar (Links folder from Bookmarks/Favorites as a toolbar) That option was also removed with Avant 11.0. Please bring back the ability to add that as a toolbar.

Thank you and best regards, Babe

Here is my real problem with changes in Groups.

I had been using IE Favorites option.

I had also been using the IE Favorites option on another TWO computers on my LAN (a Multimedia PC and a Laptop, with Offline Synch), all using the same Favorites folder. I also use Firefox which also uses IE Favorites, albeit with a plugin. And I still use IE sometimes. My Favorites are on a 2nd drive with my Data, and backed up daily both by two different methods.

If I use IE Favorites, Groups disappears. Perhaps I can Export that and Import it, but it's not synched.

If I use Avant Favorites, it's cut off from the IE Favorites which are COMMON to all.

(That's the trade-off for the option of online storage, which I am not using now and which I assume would not be compatible on another remote PC unless I installed Avant on it, in other words, no use on someone else's 'native' PC. So online storage is OK, but limited.)

Since I mostly use Groups like a hard "re-open" that means I have to go under Avant Options to switch to Avant Favorites to save and re-open Groups, then switch back to IE Favorites for normal use and shared common Favorites.

The old way was not much different from Firefox, where a plugin allows IE Favorites to appear on the menu bar, and their version of Groups appears in the menu item Bookmarks. At least with FF, I don't have to switch back and forth in settings between two sets of Favorites. I can have both simultaneously.

I agree with everyone else, removal of a separate Groups option is a downgrade of Avant features.

On the other hand, I'm very excited about Avant having better CPU usage and use of frames. Both Avant and Firefox had a tendency to start to use lots of CPU cycles and needed to be shut down and reopened to "clear" the CPU usage.

Kudos for improvements. I donated once, I may just have to donate again. Avant is TOO good.

I'm a little afraid of IE7 and Big Brother, though there's little practical way to avoid that if you're online at all. I suspect that IE7 is more "Homeland Security Ready". And IE6 gets unstable if I use it too much with Outlook Express open. I'd rather stick with security updates and use Avant for a tabbed browser than risk crashing and FBI crashing through my door.

KEEP IT SIMPLE

Post by Merel » Tue Nov 21, 2006 1:04 pm

I made a new topic for this same issue, because I didn't notice this one. My topic was removed (why not moved?) according forum rules;

But anyway, I join this club : PLEASE PUT "GROUPS" BACK AT MAIN MENU !

There is plenty of space enough !
I don't think anyone would complain to have it back there, where it is easy to use.
