It's already out of beta, it's in RC stages but what I assume you mean is when the final be out. It'll be released when it's ready.

It will be released when it's ready? What kind of **** arrogant answer is that?

How about something more tangible, like when this new year can we hope to see it?

You considered my post offensive and point me to the board rules instead of answering my question when your original response was equally offensive???

Your question was already answered. There is no timeline of when it will be released at all. It will be released when it's ready.

Its understandable to become angry at being told that it will be released when its ready. It can seem rather blunt and sarcastic but if you look at it in terms of would you rather it be rushed and released so that you and the other users don't become impatient or would you rather the developer take his time and go over it thoroughly and make it a more reliable release and fix as many bugs as he can no matter the time frame?

I mean the current release of Orca is pretty good already, so theres nothing really stopping you from using it to its fullest right now. Just be patient with the developer toy4rick and it will be released before you know it.

I would say, FIX the bug with memory issues first and formost in this RC1 release, seems I personally get the error message practically every time i close ORCA, something could not be written to a certain address, considering i'm running 1.5gb of memory on XP pro sp3, and no other program i run has the same problem, and the fact i told orca not to use any memory for caching the files and to put them directly onto harddrive using the firefox information about:config to remove the memory cache and write directly to the harddrive as avant browser would do. Which didnt do any good, as it still used the memory cache, something like memory.cache false i believe. small note that was after i installed it, Think i'll go back to the last BETA version which didnt seem to have this problem. Dont get the memory issue with firefox 3.0.5, avant browser or IE6, spyware none, virus's or trojans nope done all the scans with 3-4 programs.
And as for your reply to toy4rick, instead of saying when its ready, it would have been nicer to put beginning of 2010, or mid 2010 = june-august, or first quarter of 2010, = January-April.
DO you take your car to a garage and the mechanic replies it'll be ready when its ready, NO, he will give you a estimate of how long it will take. like it should be finished within 3hrs, if you give me your number i'll phone you when its ready for pick up.

I hear you but I am in the SW business as well and nobody wants to hear, when it's ready.

Now, you say that it will be ready "before I know it", DrDrrae says end of January, 2010? A year out is that a typo?

As for Orca being good enough to use, it freezes my computer each time I exit it and can't shut down unless I go into taskmgr and manually end process prior to shutting down windows.

FWIW... Orca and Avant are Anderson's projects with others being gracious enough to volunteer their time, effort and knowledge to help out. Some have even donated money to help Anderson out. With that said....

a) To "demand" an answer for software that is free, as if it is one's "right to know", is not fair to the author. If you paid for the software, I can understand the "customer" having a right to get answers. Or in the case of free software, if there is a security issue etc. to get an answer. But for a free project that is in the works and evolving... let's be fair. Especially since there is only one person who is working this project who has the answers.

b) As a user you have the choice of using Orca/Avant or not. If you don't like the software in its current form then don't use it. Come back at a later date and see if issues have been fixed. Many browsers out there.

c) Please attempt to research the answer to your quesiton, via the forums, prior to posting it. I suspect if you had, you would have first seen the link posted by Circumlocutus and understood the lack of posted knowledge etc. rather than Circumlocutus having to direct your attention to it. Then no one would take umbrage with anyone else ;-)

Finally, Happy New Year to all!

I wasn't kidding. I was being serious. It will be out before January 31, 2010.

Please remember that the Admins, Mods, etc. here are end users just like you. We have no advance knowledge of release dates, working on nor anything else to do with either Avant or Orca. In-fact sometimes others learn about it before we do. We just volunteer here to keep this forum up & running inheriting it from previous volunteers.
