How do I block this? :-(

Post by acerstan » Mon Jan 24, 2005 10:28 pm

I have a stupid google ad on my web-site which I wanna block, how do I do that? I tried the ad-block *blabla* stuff but it just doesn't wanna block it! here's the url of the add:

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pa ... ternate_ad_
url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.blabla.com
2Fbanners2Faltad.html&format=728x90_as&output=html&channel=
6232338015&url=http%3A%2F%2xxx.blabla.com2F&color_bg=FFFFFF&color_text=333333&color_
link=00000&color_url=666666&color_border=CCCCCC&u_h=600&u_
w=800&u_ah=600&u_aw=800&u_cd=32&u_tz=120&u_his=6&u_java=
true

Any suggestions? I really downloaded the browser because of the promissed ad-block, but I can't make it work for me! :(

10x in advance! 8)

That link doesn't seem to do anything for me.
Do you, by any chance, have the URL of the site you keep seeing the advert on?

It's a simple google ad that I wanna get rid of, i don't wanna post the url to my site here cuz it'a a family site and i don't want strangers on it, okay? :wink: 8)
I think the url to my site is not important, but the url of the google ad which I posted! What do i write in the *blabla* ad-block thing to make it block the contents of this ad?

Thanks again! :lol:

Try entering this link:

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/

into your Hosts file in Windows. That may block it.

If you insert a line in your hosts file exactly as below

Code: Select all

127.0.0.1                  pagead2.googlesyndication.com
(note that neither the protocol nor folders should be specified, just the domain) ANY and ALL calls to that domain will fail (actually they won't exit your computer), resulting in "Page not found" errors for any page or frame pointing there and "red X" placeholders for any picture stored there. This of course means that if you need to access a page stored at, say, pagead2.googlesyndication.com/index/test/main.html you won't be able at all, but I doubt a domain named "pagead2" will ever contain anything of interest for those disliking online ads :wink:

If it's your own page, aren't you being paid to display this Google ad...?

I hadn't read fully his first post :D maybe he just wants OTHERS to see the ad on his site and not have it get on his way when HE is browsing :wink:

And yet ... he doesn't want visitors on the site. :?

Thank God I already had that in my HOSTS...In fact, I have all of these:

127.0.0.1 pagead.googlesyndication.com
127.0.0.1 pagead1.googlesyndication.com
127.0.0.1 pagead2.googlesyndication.com
127.0.0.1 pagead3.googlesyndication.com
