Could someone help me pick a version from the archive please

Post by browbeta » Fri Nov 05, 2004 2:01 am

Hi...
It's been a while :D

I need help figuring out which build to get... I had downloaded the latest build from the main page had been running it the past week happily once I configured it to my liking (had finally capitulated to that darn nag screen... was running version 9.xx prior). Then I discovered today it wouldn't run java... came here to check and yep sure enough an issue with XP.

So... I went to the archives to download an older version... downloaded absetup9_02_101su7 only to find it didn't run java either... so tried version absetup9_02_101su1... now currently everything is fine with the exception of the avantfind page... I can't turn it off... It's not in miscellaneous settings... and it's downright annoying... as it shows up at the slightest internet error...

Can anyone tell me which build has java working for XP and an option to turn avantfind off?

Short answer... None.

Avantfind turn off option is only available in 10.x beta and later.

Java should work in all versions. It does for me (I think).
Edit: Yes, it does work. I just tested it.

Moving to Avant Browser Discussions.

I take it you are using version 10 then... which build? ... as long as I can get to my chatroom I'll be happy.

I'm using 10.0 Build 30 right now.

I suggest reinstall Avant and then reinstalling java (you may have to uninstall it first). It should work then.

v 9.02 build 033 works well enough for me, very minor annoyances, and absolutely no reason to upgrade to the Great Unknown.

Hmm. While we're here I'm having a problem with (Sun) Java. The control panel applet has stopped working. Anyone know how to uninstall it?

Hi browbeta,
That is a site I just found from doing a Google Search for the exe on the filename I know to be MS Java (because I have it as well and prefer it myself). So, there are many different download links on that site for you to choose from (like if one is taking too long or something). Anyway - it is the "full install" - just as we 'used to get' from Microsoft, when they were allowed to give it out to us. Hope that helps - because Avant version 10.0-030 really IS a Great Version - and if you install the MS Java and then update to 10.0-030 - I think you'll really like it alot. Best Wishes...

And, Sergei - as far as Sun Java - back when "I" had that while using Mozilla (waaaaaaaay back when it was in very beginning stages) - but honestly - I always simply 'uninstalled' the Sun Java by way of Add/Remove Programs... does that not work for you??? Unless, of course you've already figured it all out by now - in which case - nevermind, and I'm very glad...

Strangely enough I had some major problems with Sun's Java too. Could only uninstall it by formatting the HD (it's uninst entry was missing, along with it's uninst executable.... and over-installing/uninstalling didn't work)

I installed 10.0 Build 30, and Java quit working entirely. Re-installed Java, but no go. Went back to 9.02 build 101, and all is fine with Java.
