Major Memory Leak

Post by triplets » Sun Oct 17, 2004 4:49 pm

Using Windows XP SP2 and latest build of Avant

If I open up several tabs, then close them I do not go back to what I started at. I seem to lose about 10Meg per window I open and close.

Hello triplets,

May I ask have you renamed the executable file avant.exe to iexplore.exe for SP2 compatibility? There were suspicions of a memory leak caused by that.

I tried that this morning, it might of helped a little, but my memory still goes down while Avant is open. I am forced to reboot several times a day to reset the memory.

(Just to clarify, the suspicion was that changing the name to iexplore.exe caused a memory leak.)

After running with the file renamed iexplore.exe for one day I notice no difference. As the day goes on my available memory constantly decreases as Avant is left open. Only way to recover lost memory is to reboot.

Doesn't logging off also free it, or are you using 9x?

Since I am the only one using my computer I never use the log off feature.

This should not be required if the memory leak was fixed in this program

Other than that it is a great piece of software.

No, of course you shouldn't have to. I'm just saying you'll find logging off and on again quicker than a restart.

I'm finding myself that virtual memory does appear to accrue over days, though not to crisis point yet. As this version is now the new release I'll move this tread to the main Bug Report forum, where it may get more attention.

I'm using 10.027 on XP Pro. With task manager open to view my memory usage. On open of Avant I open 22 pages. The memory loads up to 54M. So I set the browser option s to open no pages and Avant opens with 11M.

Next I reset the browser to open all 22 pages as before. Memory again back to 54M, now when I close all the windows and keep Avant open with no pages left open, I still show 30M being used by Avant.exe.

Why doesn't avant revert back to 11M?

I have noticed similar. If you browse some hours the used memory is going from 150 MB to 300-400 MB with the same opened tabs. Re-starting avant brings it back to 150 MB. (Same on GDI ... )

Version 28 still has the memory leak. I have been using the browser for less then an hour and I already lost 40Meg of memory that I can not recover unless I reboot or log off.

Sorry to restoring old theme but those symptoms (I mean VM size, not GDI. GDI-ok) are still in 10.0.131 on Windows2003 server and windows 2000 proffesional
