Thankyou :)

There is one new thing I've added however, that I can't test on my own. I've set the color for the actual "name" of the mod/host to different colors than normal users to allow easier differentiation, and unfortunately....... need someone else to check whether it's working or not :(

Just needs a few things: (IMHO)

1) An alert like Chatzys' that allows a choice of either a sound or dialoge box that will pop up as long as you don't log out of the room.

2) Either an away/back button or definite instructions under the "who's on line" pointing out to type that & showing Smilies that pop up when it is done.

2a) Some way to know who is active in the room (hasn't /away). Maybe show active as Black & inactive as Blue. Mainly as the room refreshes but you cannot scroll to see what was said prior to joining nor who has taken an away break.

3) The privacy mode should be able to include maybe 3-4 members seeing the Private Room is gone so Members can discuss something Privately in real time that might not relate to everybody else. Or we can keep Chatzys for that alone.. :?:

I don't like the idea of the popup for 2 reasons;

1. They're irritating
2. Most people have AB's ad blocker/popup blocker enabled, so it wouldn't show up anyway

I'll work on the sound option instead though :wink:
Angeldust wrote:2) Either an away/back button or definite instructions under the "who's on line" pointing out to type that & showing Smilies that pop up when it is done.
I'll probably go with the instructions option as it's much easier (and alot less chances of bug's). However, I'll weigh up each and see which is preferable.

Will be done as soon as I've decided on #2 :wink:

I'm not quite sure what you mean here...... are you wanting it to allow 3-4 people to chat privatly at the same time or.......?

That way we can hold Private Discussions re; The Forum, clandstine meetings :wink: , Admin. overthrows :twisted: , etc. and allow Chatzys to lapse.

Oks, made another couple updates to the chat room.

I've re-written the mod/host verification in an attempt to prevent people trying to login as (for example) "MOD some_user" etc, and have added the color co-ordination to the users list (wasn't going to but figured..... what the heck, might aswell).

I've also added a "Terms of Use" statement/clause thingymibob to the login page (would love to hear opinions from the mod's on whether I've missed anything....?)

I'm still working on;

1. Away/Back notification
2. Alerts
3. Multi-user PM's

Just another couple updates.

I've re-written the URL detection script, so it should now display URL's correctly, and if it works as I've written it, should also do the same for FTP, mailto links (I've only tested http links so far).

I've also added the usual bold, underline, italic and strikethrough features. They aren't displayed on the chat info, but the syntax is;

Code: Select all

Some text
ISome text
Some text
[s]Some text[/s]
Obviously, "Some text" is the text you want to send. Aslong as you use the rsspective tags above, they will show as are meant to.

I've decided to use the forum syntax for them as it's basically what most people are used to, and thus, should present less problems.

Access Problems

Post by MysteryFCM » Fri Mar 26, 2004 4:55 am

I've so far had 3 reports of people having problems accessing the chat room. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no idea as to what is causing it as I've been able to access it without any problems, and Angeldust and myself are in it as I write this.

If anyone has any ideas at all, can you please post them as I am 100% stumped as to what could be causing it.

Possible causes I have had previous reports about are;

Norton (mainly their AV and firewall, but had a couple about NSW aswell)
Internet cache (Temporary Internet Files) folder needing cleaned

Unfortunately (or fortunately, however you want to look at it), I've been able to rule out DNS issues, AB itself, ZA firewall, internet cache.
Windows XP QB updates (esp the latest one's)

If anyone can think of anything I may not have thought of, can you please post it here.

Additionally, if you are having problems, please post the problems here, including the following information;

Windows version (e.g. Windows XP)
AB and IE version (e.g. AB 9.0.1.001, IE 6 SP1)
ISP (Internet Service Provider)

This is basically so I can see if there is a common denominator

Just a minor update........

Whilst working on a new web-based app, I had a brain storm and figured out the problem with the "AWAY" and "BACK" options that I'd not implemented.... well, I've now implemented them (for those that haven't noticed). They don't allow for typing /back or /away into the room itself, but there's buttons in the Users panel to do so.

Anyway, enough of my rambling........

Pip, I could add the clicking on the smilies, but would prefer not to as I would need to use Javascript, and not everyone has this enabled.

As for no-one being there, I've been extremely busy over the past couple days, and took a break from the net yesterday (well I say a break, I was still connected but working on a new web-based app on my other PC). I check the chat room from time to time and pop in whenever there's anyone there but most of the time, it appear's they've simply disconnected without logging out......... :? (hence the note regarding this being removed..... no-one seemed to take notice of it anyway)

I keep saying that the Landlord is going to boot us, just like they're considering down at the local pub (The Bar & Grill), maybe the two should merge. I've been there everynight to no avail, what we need is an Alert for those of us who go there & leave the room open to check back with.

I could've done, but don't want to....... simply because;

1. It's not as stable (uses ALOT more resources, on both my server, and the client system)
2. Not everyone has it enabled
3. It's a bleedin nightmare

How about a provision within the Chatroom that would logoff anyone who is logged on without any activity for several hours.......I have logged on thinking there were people logged on but have been unable to get responses..........soo, obviously, people are neglecting or forgetting to log off....

Locked
