The Official Stumbleupon Toolbar Thread

Post by VousDeux » Wed Feb 25, 2004 4:37 am

Greetings,

I recently switched from Firebird to Avant Browser, but I can't get my Stumbleupon Toolbar to show up. Is there an option somewhere I'm overlooking that prevents 3rd party toolbars from working?

Thanks

3rd party toolbars have to be coded in by the developer to work. If enough people ask for this then it will most likely be added. Sorry.

Yes, every new toolbar requires work to integrate it, so as I said in another thread it is something of a beauty contest. If enough people want it it will probably be implemented, and Stumbleupon does seem like one with a good chance.

Stumbleupon is an interesting concept, sort of a cross betweeen a search engine and an online community, so I imagine it will be a popular choice, especially if its reputation keeps growing as fast as it currently is. Check to see if someone has already requested it in the 'Requests' forum and add your voice to the mob, or start a thread for it if there isn't one already.

Best of luck, I'd quite like it myself!

I know that MyIE2 now has support for the Stumbleupon Toolbar, so it shouldn't be too hard for Anderson to add support to Avant... hopefully :)

Developers for StumbleUpon note in the faq that they'd like to support Avant if given coding tips. I believe the primary point of contact is geoff at stumbleupon.com, and the developer for IE-variant toolbars is justin at stumbleupon.com.

strange, I did a search for stumbleupon beforing making my recent post about it, and this thread didn't show up. Oh well, I'd like to add my vote here! Anderson, if you have time, let us use StumbleUpon! :-)

When using it with MyIE2, I found StumbleUpon to be quite useful. Sure, you got a bunch of dumb sites, but I also found more than a dozen sites I loved that I never knew existed, in less than an hour. I kept using it for another hour, and behold! - more great sites I never knew existed! Good stuff.

another vote for stumbleupon.

i miss the old days of the internet where you had to actually browse for hours looking for stuff, and then you would come across random but interesting and good stuff along the way. now i only visit about 5 sites on a daily basis, and maybe 15 total on a weekly basis, and thats it. and then of course i find answers to specific questions within a couple of tries on google.

Is there something similar to SpoofStick which will work with AB?

Thanks.

I'd like for StumbleUpon to be supported as well. I really didn't want to switch to Firefox just to use it.

Stumbleupon the only thing missing

Post by giappino » Sat Mar 26, 2005 7:39 pm

I think Avant is really solid and I've had better luck with it than Firefox. The only thing missing to me is the StumbleUpon Toolbar. If Anderson Che could get it to work then Avant will be the single best browser out there, IMO

Hi everyone, I just found this topic on google :) Yeah StumbleUpon is great and they guys who run it (Justin and Geoff) are really cool. I have released a mod that allows phpBB owners to integrate StumblUpon into their phpBB profile. You can view more details here:

Thanks :)

Stumble vote

Post by JohnBoone » Sun Sep 18, 2005 6:53 pm

Me too! Stumble upon has become an integral part of the browsing experience. I have finally switched back to AB after a cpl of months using other browsers. Avant Browser is #1 but desperately needing Stumble upon functionality to stay viable.

If it provides context functionality (right click context menu), I'll happily add it to the AB Extension Pack if that would help? (tis the only way I'd be able to do it, Anderson would need to deal with the toolbar itself).

Another vote for StumbleUpon. I love it and wish Avant supported it. Please pass some code to the creators so they can code it for Avant.
