Address Bar Text

Post by grant3tkd » Sat Dec 06, 2003 9:56 am

The text of every URL I visit is alway cut off by 25% on the bottom. This has never happened to me in IE6. I tried removing the address bar and putting it back up again, to no avail. I just downloaded and installed Avant, and I love everything about it except this stupid address bar problem. I have XP Home, P4 2GHz. Thanks

This is probably due to using large fonts rather than small fonts in Windows.
Avant also doesn't co-operate with some dark Windows colour schemes very well in my experience.

Or even extra-large. The setting to adjust this is: (Right-click on desktop)>Active Desktop>Settings>Advanced.

You should see it here on the 'General' tab.

I think this is an issue specific to Avant. For example, I'm using a competitor's browser (I can't really say the name .. *cough*MyIE2*cough*), and the text in the address bar is not cut off at all; it appears just as it does on IE. It may just be how Avant sets up the text in the address bar via some variable or graphical placement...

This is indeed Avant's most frustrating shortcoming. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Any luck with this fix?

Hi:
Having bought a new laptop with higher resolution (wide-screen), I am facing the same problem with the address bar. Could be a potential avant-quiting-reason!

I also have a problem with chopped
address bar text.

It doesn't affect my usability, but it's just a flaw that jumps right out at you.

Although stability and cpu usage issues should have top priority, this should be third on the repair list; because, it would give users more confidence in AB and they would be more likely to keep it and refer it to others.

I've found that changing the "ToolTip" font size under Appearance, then Advance settings shows the address text fully.

Thanks Duke, adjusting the font
size helps a lot. ( control panel>
display>Appearance>item(scroll down)>tooltip)

I had to go down to 6 and every letter is complete except those that hang.

What style are you using?

Side note for possible trouble
shooting: IE sets the size and
style of the font in the address
bar, while AB lets you do anything you want with it.

Glad to help. What do you mean by "those that hang"?
