"Find on this page" bug

Post by deputyjim » Mon Dec 30, 2002 10:39 pm

I've been using AvantBrowser for several weeks now and for the most part, it's great! It's really changed the way I browse the internet. The tab function really rocks.

However, I've found a few bugs, most of which have already been discussed. One that I haven't seen reported is trying to use the "Find on this page" in the Edit menu. Trying to invoke that command makes the app lock up and crash every time. It's completely reproducible and happens regardless of circumstances.

Hopefully that bug can be fixed in an otherwise excellent browser. Thanks for such a great product.

I have this same bug. I'm using the latest version, (that I know of) 7.0.2.8 w/WinXP Pro, 256 DDR and a P4 1.8.

I'm running XP Home on a Toshiba Laptop P4 1.7. I'm also running the latest version of AB (7.0.2.8), but it's crashed with the Find function even on previous versions. Every new version I download, I check for that function to see if it has been fixed. HTH.

It must be a WinXP connected problem. I am using Win98, and I have no problem with the "Find on this page" command. In fact it works great. Btw I am using AB 7.0.2.8.

The reason I suggested it might be an XP problem is that the above posts all report using WinXP  :P

Had this same problem, using AB 8.02 build 105 under Windows XP.

But only on certain pages. For example, go to:

http://palmaddicts.blogspot.com/

And search for something (I was looking for the name "Rhodes"). It hangs.

(P.S. Just ocurred to me to try this in IE, which also HANGS!)

How did you search within a page using just IE?

I tried with the Ctrl+F search tool and that didn't hang. Then I tried with the Google toolbar. The search term finding buttons work fine.

But when it came to using the highlight button, that made it hang.

Looks like the conflict is between certain pages and Google technology.
