Yea sorry about that again.. I've been told since that the release was premature to announce. And theres just been a vague idea of when it might actually come out now.

No problem, I'm over it. Is there still activity though? So is there still a chance of something happening within the next 12-24 months?

Anderson is probably getting hundreds of lines each day. if you imagine that, then you can probably get an idea of how big the project is. there's also debuging to do aswell.
...but then again he might be busy with work and stuff, and is only working on it part-time. it's still a pretty big project, afaik.
there's a lot of stuff to take into account with a web browser. every little button you seen in Avant Browser now has to go somewhere and it has to know where to go. once you click on something, it has to go to a certain function giving it more instructions.
just looking at every little thing visible to you, then thinking about what's not visible to you, should explain a lot.

With the new IE8 finally becoming compliant to web standards and Firefox 3 that promises to be even faster than Opera, i don't think Anderson will be out of work for some time.

BTW, if IE8 uses web standards as default, will that not undermine the Orca effort?

I hope the future build of orca can run with all the operating systems.

Linux, macintosh and Windows.

I Think if orca has the functions of avant browser, it will compete with the other navigators seriously.

In addition to that orca and Avant browser are much better than firefox and Internet explorer.

Internet explorer 8 is so bad than the navigators orca and avant browser !

Orca and avant Browser For ever !

I can't say it will never happen. But, I can pretty much say Avant/Orca will not be cross-platform any time soon unfortunately.

As for Avant with Internet Explorer 8.. IE8 will only make Avant better. Don't judge IE8 for the beta that is out right now. That was just a preview for website developers. Alot will be coming with beta 2 this summer.

Orca has a better chance of being cross-platform then Avant. I wouldn't say it's not going to be cross-platform yet.

to add on to that, consider this:
I personally know that Anderson does know C, if not then some.
hes rebuilding Orca from the ground up

I don't wanna get anyone's hopes up though.

Do you know if the next build of orca can integrate autofill , online storage and download manager ?

Other : If online storage can be run as orca , can we have the choice to use the online storage of avant as online storage for orca ?

I Hope this function can be run as orca .

I hope when the new of ORCA comes out that a of features remain ie: compact style, X to exit the browser. When those features went away I switched to Orca plus it is fast as ****. IMO Orca is still faster than Firefox 3 Beta 5.

well, I hope it's not too late for thoughts of cross-platform. cross-platform should've been something kept in mind, when starting the new Orca.

I can't agree with you. Cross-platform support is an absolutely HUGE undertaking. With the Avant/Orca interface so tied in to Windows specific APIs, it would be too much work for one man to support cross-platform applications. With Windows taking up more than 80% of the market share, it just isn't economical for Anderson to support Linux/OSX.

Supporting Windows version from 2000 to Vista is hard enough. Adding *nix based operating systems would just not be feasible.

Don't get me wrong, I like Linux and use it as much as I can, but I just cannot see any sense in making Orca cross-platform compatible.

Eric, I agree. Firefox and Opera are very nice on *nix although Opera's interface could match a little better. I just wish there was a good WebKit based browser.

My only qualm w/ Opera is that I can't quite ever get it customized the way I want it. FF, on the other hand, is HIGHLY customizable, if you know what you're doing (userChrome, prefs.js, etc.). :)

By the way, I was just being facetious above when demanding an Orca for Linux. While it would be nice, I know that Anderson must only focus on the part of the market that would be worthwhile to him (Windows).

I don't use Windows anymore (been nearly two years since I kicked that habit), but I know that many of you blokes out there still do. It's a personal preference thing. Windows was a wonderful thing for me at one time. It taught me a lot. It allowed me access to the Internet. I moved on, though.

Y'all have FUN now! :)

afaik, you can compile a program written in C for both Windows and Unix, with the same code. it depends on the headers in the program, and the compiler's mode. the headers load a different definition class, which provides linux compatible definitions for the function. something like that. I could be wrong though, I've only work with C for Windows since I never bothered to install linux.

also, I don't think Orca is programmed in Delphi. I don't know that for sure though.

so, Anderson just decides to rebuild Orca from the ground up, and you can't see any sense if making it compatible with Mac or Linux? even though the users are asking for it?
