No answers to that question? I´m interested too. Maybe some screenshots are available of AB 1 or 2.

PS: when was the first release?

Actually I do have a copy somewhere.
It went by a different name which escapes me now.
I'll post it later.

Opera IE or something like that
'Minimal collateral damage' and 'entire star system' do /not/ belong in the same sentence.

http://www.50download.com/software/IE%20Opera.htm

This is the oldest version I've been able to find. I believe the name was changed for (fairly obvious) legal reasons :)

Uh, just checked it out. Despite the outdatedness of the site, the link goes to the latest release. Trust Anderson to be systematic!

This site has some older versions FileMirrors. Just type absetup in the search field to find any versions they have. Even tryed iosetup and found a few(big downloads though and I'm on dial-up so haven't tryed them to see if they are indeed OperaIE). Note: Very few file have build numbers so you will have to download them to see what version they are.

You will never find a version 1 or 2, though, Avant's predecessor, IEOpera, began at version 6.5. At that time, Opera was at version 6 and so IEOpera was listed at 6.5 to make it look like an upgrade to Opera.

So if you manage to find 6.5, that's the equivalent of 1.0

Found it! http://freeshare.tnc.edu.tw/index.php?act=view&SMID=124

It was hiding out in Taiwan.

Nice find!

Actually this forum had as its predesessor a Yahoo Groups mailing list, believe it or not. That obvioulsy wasn't a very efficient way of doing things, so it was quickly replaced by a forum. I tried to dig up the old Yahoo groups page, but it seems to have been deleted.

You can get IEOpera 6.5.2 at: http://download.pods.lv/IEOpera/
This site maintains a lot of old stuff, just go to the parent directory: http://download.pods.lv/

Pretty bare and this point! No searchbar, no skins. You couldn't even unlock the toolbars.

It has a version check though - apparently, yes, there is a new one available!

Hey Sergei, does it install over Avant or as a seperate browser?

It seems to play nice with Avant. The executable (IEOpera.exe) and all the files have different names.

I took the precaution of installing it under a different user profile but it doesn't have a separate settings folder so if it's installed for one it's there for all.

Yes they do play nicely. Just installed and checked it out. You'r right about the new version check and it donwloads the latest Avant. Interesting thing though it that it has the option to import or export favorites. Wonder why it was taken out in later versions?

lmao great splash screen

thats kind of spooky looking at the first version and then coming right back to Avant 8.03 B8. I'm glad there's a new logo! The IE Opera one looked like a horrible combination of A Quicktime 2.0 icon and an IE 3.0 icon!

Maybe the import favorites thing caused confusion - people tried to import Opera favorites or Netscape bookmarks then complained it didn't work.

Ya, IEOpera, Gorilla Browser (the name of this program for about a week) and Avant all used the same website design. The current version of the site only came out with the release of AB 8.0
