Orca is great...

Post by 51pegase » Fri Mar 31, 2006 1:40 pm

Hello,

I've just discover Orca and love it...

Gecko has more effectiveness with memory and swapping, and I'm bored with Firefox and his different keyboard, specially on Ctrl and Shift.......... Orca is perfect because we can use the same keyboard than all the others (Opera, IE, Maxthon, etc....)

Also, with Gecko, we can use hiddens users preferences of Firefox.... By exemple, if you don't like this boring warning box when you use an url like

http://user:password@www.something.com/

you just have to add the line

user_pref("network.http.phishy-userpass-length", 256);

in pref.js.

Hope that https will work soon, because is impossible to use a browser without...

Oops.... I rectify.... https not working WITH A PROXY...... At home it works.... I'll try at work by manually tweaking the pref.js file....

Proxy settings....

Post by 51pegase » Mon Apr 03, 2006 5:57 am

It works...

If you are behind a proxy, you have to manually add the lines in prefs.js file.

Examples:

for https, add
user_pref("network.proxy.ssl", "www.YourProxy.YourDomain or IP Address");
user_pref("network.proxy.ssl_port", 8080);

for ftp, add
user_pref("network.proxy.ftp", "www.YourProxy.YourDomain or IP Address");
user_pref("network.proxy.ftp_port", 8080);

etc....

Orca is great, but still needs more work. That's why is my question: is the new release gonna be released at the same time as the AB2006? (and when is it gonna be? ;))

Ive been using Orca now for a few months, i use it as my default browser and i think it is great,
its very stable, looking forward to new releases, it only needs a few tweaks at the moment, its pretty much a complete browser

I would be careful using Orca in it's current state. It uses an outdated Gecko engine (read: security and stability issues).

Note what DrDrrae said above. There should be a new version fairly soon.

Ive been using Orca v1 rc3 now for months,
i use it as my default browser, i think its the best browser ive used in a long time, i find it very stable too i have no real problems at all, and its fast.
granted there are a few minor bugs but nothing thats a major problem
one feature i would like added is the favorites
i want to be able to add all tabs to favorites in one go, at the moment we can only add them one by one
but apart from that its a real pleasure to use
hope the development picks up again soon, its been a long time since an update now,
excellent work, thanks

I have one suggestion, is there capability to upload browser settings and bookmarks on server like Avant does?

Really good browser, good job!

Best regards

Currently, no. Avant 11 (which introduced this capability) was released after the latest Orca.
