Does anyone use Orca full time?

Post by jimmy » Tue Mar 14, 2006 5:43 pm

I was curious to see if anyone is using Orca as their default browser. And if they aren't, what is stopping them.

I use it 90% of the time, but miss RoboForm and hotkeys in the context menu.

I'm using Avant as my default browser.
I like the IE's engine more than Gecko engine.
IE8(Pro), Microsoft Security Essentials

Secondary PC same as primary but with Windows 7 x64 Ultimate as the OS.

I'm using Orca as my default browser, I don't see (almost) any change between Avant and Orca. What is annoying? Random crashes. :(

I'm using Orca as my browser of choice however, I still use Avant when I want to use "Microsoft Update" as it won't work without an IE based browser.

Cheers,

I've stopped using Orca because I use RoboForm a lot; but I'm also happy with Avant's IE engine and may stick with Avant anyway.

I am using Avant Browser as my primary browser because I haven't any problems with the IE's engine. And I love the speed of the latest builds!
Avant user since the year 2003.

I am using Orca as default and only use Avant when IE's engine is required. At job. When I am at home, I use commonly Opera (when an Opera Avant?)

I had Orca as my default, but changed the official default back to Avant because I also missed Robo Form (special-ed typing speed), plus my online financial sites kept saying that Orca didn't meet their security requirements. Also, if in heavy use, every once in awhile it's as if Orca gets tired. The page doesn't display correctly (content cut off at the sides or freezing), but so far no crashing. Closing and restarting helps this.

I'm still using Orca 1.0 (the check for update tab keeps returning "the page cannot be displayed), but now that I know there is a later release, I'll track it down. Orca just zips along, and does the fastest downloads of anything I ever used!

Avant is the Opera Avant! It was originally designed to join advanced features of Opera, (tabbing, pop-up blocking, and integrated search), to the IE browsing engine. In fact at first it briefly went by the name of "IE Opera". Though it's come a long way since, you can still see the influence of Opera, especially in the way tabs behave.

If you mean a version of Avant using the Opera browsing engine though, I don't think that's possible. Firefox's is open source, and IE is designed to let other programs use its engine, but I imagine Opera's is integrated in an inaccessible way.

I recently switched back to Orca. It loads my initial start-up of 30 pages about 30 seconds faster.

I only use Avant now when I need to do my online banking or if I know I will need Robo-Form a lot.
