active x and javascript

Post by Catfisherman » Fri Apr 22, 2005 10:56 pm

Not for sure if this is the right place to post this question, if not please feel free to move it to the right place.

There are certain sites that I go to that need active x and/or javascript enabled to work properly, what i'm wondering is is there a way to enable them automatically when I go to these sites (like a list or something that you enter the webpage in and when avant is directed to that site then active x and/or javascript is enabled for that site) and then they are unenabled when I leave the site ?
Hope that makes sense.

What I've been doing is manually enabling them when I go to the sites that need them. I run avant with them disabled normally for safety.

Couldn't you add them to your "Trusted Site" list?

Sara :)

Thanks for the quick reply.
This wasn't what I was for sure of, i've never used the trusted sites list and wasn't for sure if thats how it worked or not.
So any site I would add to the trusted sites will run active x and java right ?
Am I understaning what the trusted sites list is for ?
And this is the list under internet options ?

Thanks again for the help

Yep.. you've got it.

Keep in mind, too, that you can adjust the controls for each of those settings, too, and that moving it to your Trusted Zone won't override turning it off in Avant.

OK got it. Thanks for helping me understand how the trusted sites work.
Just one other question. So if I have active x and java disabled under tools in avant they still won't work correct ? I would have to manually enable them at each site that needed them still ? (thats what I was really looking for a way around, guess I didn't state my original question the right way).

No, you conveyed your point just fine, it was me. ;)

Basically, yes, if you run into this a lot, then the best thing to do would be to change your Internet Options settings to never run those items. Then, when you run across a site that you trust that needs it, you can place that site in your Trusted Zone.

It will take a little while to get everything setup the way you like, but once all the sites are set, it will work just as you want.

While I have over 23,000 sites in my HOSTS file that prevent me from ever downloading from them, there are only a Precious Few Trusted Sites :!:
