stop button (white x in red square)

Post by mathman » Thu Apr 10, 2014 1:22 am

For some reason some articles from the Washington Post (all Op Ed columns) seem to have a loading problem. The computer locks up after the text appears. In order to get out of the lock I click on the stop icon.

Using Avant IE9 rendering engine, it remained locked.
When I tried the same thing on IE9 directly, I got the same lock, but the stop button worked and I was able to proceed.

The problem is intermittent. Sometimes it stops normally (without hitting stop). Example:

Above is another example. I could not get it to stop. Furthermore, while I was waiting, I tried to open this forum, but it wouldn't open till I closed the above.

The stop button takes effect at the moment when you release the button.
Is it possible that when you release the button the page has already loaded(the two actions finished at the same time)?

Not likely, since it happened many times. To further confuse the issue I think the Washington Post may be working on the problem, since it is happening a lot less often.

I was a little too optimistic. The problem still continues.

Above is latest. In Avant I clicked on the X several times and it didn't stop. Using IE9 directly I got it to stop.

Further clues: In order to open this forum so I could add this note, I had to close the tab (above) where it wouldn't stop.

Second clue: when it is locked the curser arrow is accompanied by a little circulating ring. When I move the curser to shut the tab the ring disappears. It also disappears when I move the curser to the search bar. In IE9 direct the ring does not appear while it is hung.

It looks like the Washington Post finally fixed their problem. So the issue of my original post is moot, since I never experienced it any place else.
