continually crashing

Post by augustr » Wed Nov 30, 2011 1:54 am

windows 7 ultimate 64 avant ultimate 2012 build 8 IE9?

part of the time the browser works for awhile then just stops working freezes

other times it freezes on the first page open. It is becoming impossible to use. I must have reopened on the same page a dozen times but it can't get past downloading the top of the page and then freezing as soon as I try to move down the page to read it.

something to do with the blocking function or something?????

Are you using IE9 rendering engine under Tools>Default rendering engines?
Try your IE9 browser to exclude the possibility of IE9 problem

yes, I have it set for IE9 and while I haven't used 9 much , it doesn't seem to crash when I use it.

Do you use any add-ons or plug-ins in Avant?
How about using firefox rendering engine? From my experience, firefox engine works more fluently

What does that mean "Firefox rendering Engine"?

After many years of using AB, I to am getting a little fed up with crashes Roboform missing, Google toolbar missing, reseting all my preferences on what seems like a daily basis....rubbish.

They add firefox rendering engine under Tools>Default rendering engines in the ultimate versions of 2012.

There is a feature called backup/restore profiles under Tools menu.

Since avant can run with gecko, i don't use ie rendering engine any more, but the gecko can't release memory completely when the memory usage goes up to more than 400mb. closing tabs can't fix the problem. so it's the only disadvantage of gecko. runing with ie engine can release the memory but a single process could go up to 200mb sometimes. i still suggest you to use avant browser 2012 ultimate version. after all, avant runs more stable with gecko.

I switched to avant ultimate and so far no crashes. One other question, every once in awhile, I somehow get a second large plus on the tab line and a section of the page is blocked off. I just mouse around and open and close and click on likely possibilities and eventually the second blue plus goes away. Where does it reside? I never remember what I did to get rid of it the last time.

If you see two plus signs [+] (the new tab button), then you have a split view (side-by-side tab views).

You probably got into split view by inadvertently clicking on the "split view" button, which is just to the right of the plus sign (new tab) button.

To undo "split view", select "View" on the menu bar and then de-select (toggle off) "Split View".

Thank you, now I just have to remember the location, and I will write it down. Avant Ultimate seems to be more stable on my system. At least it hasn't crashed the last two days. How should I close the thread as succesfully resolved? Is that required?
