Above web page layout is screwed up in Avant. It loads correctly in Orca.

Your user-agent string shows both IE8 and IE6 so the site is probably rendering incorrectly for IE6. Please try the tip in this article.

I am trying to use the fix described involving the registry editor using the following:
----------------------------------------
Set Avant to use IE 8 Rendering Engine
---------------------------------------
I got part way through, but I reached a point where the instruction is completely uniformative.
-------------------------------------------------
4.Add a new dword named "avant.exe" (without quotes) and set it to either "decimal 7000" or "decimal 8000", depending on what mode you want to use for Avant.
7000 for Compatibility mode
------------------------------------------------------------------
What is a dword and where do I add it? Also I presume I should use 8888 not 8000, but I'm not sure.

I suggested using the file in the linked post to sort your user agent problem.
You do not need to set your IE mode as you are already using IE8 mode.

Unresolved build 46 gmail bug.

Post by mathman » Sat Feb 20, 2010 10:00 pm

Avant build 46 screws up the layout for gmail and other pages (National Geographic).

The fixes referenced in previous bug reports either doesn't work or is so obscure that the ordinary user (like me) is unable to process it. Also I suggest that before proposing a possible fix, check that it actually works!!! I hope that Avant resolves the problem for the next build.

Merged post. -André

We can't automatically know exactly what the problem is and exactly how to fix it. We need to do some, usually basic, troubleshooting. If you need help, don't be afraid to ask.

Also, stop posting new topics for ones that already exists. Especially for ones that YOU started.

Edit:I just wanted to say that I did not see any problems with the NatGeo site with Avant set to either IE 7 compatibility mode (7000) or IE 8 standards mode (8000). I did, however, get a small positioning issue with the search button with Avant set to force IE 8 standards mode (8888).

newsnationalgeographic.com is the web site that is being displayed improperly, along with gmail. Using Orca both come out fine. I used statm1 suggestion with decimal 8000 for avant.exe (does it matter that I used a lower case a?) for both current_user and local_machine and it had no effect.

I couldn't understand it, so I was unable to try it. All I could see was downloading some zip file and nothing further. Also has anyone actually tried it and saw that it worked. I don't feeling like trying out someone's guess.

You extract the file in the zip and double click it. It can't be any easier. If you don't want to try a proposed solution, that's your prerogative but you then can't expect anything to ever be fixed.

Sorry, I've been unavailable for a while. Can you go to http://www.useragentstring.com/ with Avant and let us know your new user agent string. Can you also post a screenshot of the problem page so that we can see the problem.

Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; Avant Browser)

Above is user agent string. How do I post a screen shot? I know how to do it by e-mail, but not as a forum entry.

Thanks, that looks much better now.

Create a screenshot as you would normally do, the either attach it to the post (scroll down when replying and you should see the upload attachment section) or upload it to one of the very many image hosting website and place the link in your post.

That screenshot is for GMail - not NationalGeographic. It has already been posted that the registry fix works to resolve that issue.

Download my IEMode from the wiki and select IE8+ while holding down the shift key then restart Avant.

Thanks - it worked! National Geographic problem fixed also - I presume the problem had the same source as the gmail problem.
