[FIXED] Search problem with non-English characters

Post by ADukes » Mon Jul 30, 2007 11:48 pm

The super drag & drop search for words with non-English characters in it doesn't work in build 17 (don't know if it's the case in earlier versions too).

For example Österreich becomes ?sterreich.

EDIT: Changed subject from "Super drag & drop search and non-English characters"
to "Search problem with non-English characters" to reflect the other reported problems with the search and non-English characters in build 17.

If you're getting the URL correctly, it would seem that you have the right encoding. ;)

I have just noticed that it is now the same with the search bar.
So I guess the new version (build 17) has some problems with the default search entry and UTF-8 http://www.google.de/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=

Oh
I can confirm just when the search string is set to http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=
But everything is fine when the search string is set to http://www.google.com/search?q=

I would assume the UTF-8 is telling Google what encoding to expect?

I'm an arrogant American who doesn't have to know different languages and therefore, also doesn't have to know other encoding!

ą, ę, ó, ł, ś etc.
in searching bar these letters change for some strange things

Also happens to me. Any Japanese characters I type in the URL bar for quick search or the search bar turn into '?'.

I have the same problem with Arabic words.

When I enter an Arabic word in the Search field.

It takes me to google but with Junk letters in the search string.

This started to happen only after the last Avant Browser Update (Build 17).

Did not solve my problem with Arabic.

Hi.

I have the same problem too, with Arabic script.
There is nothing wrong with Google itself. I changed the standard search engine to Yahoo! and other search engines but the problem still exists.

Is this the string you all are using?

Code: Select all

http://www.google.com/search?q=
It should work with that I think...
