There was an issue with more than one tab showing as "pressed", it looks like it's fixed now. That's probably what it means

Avant is setup with a file in Windows that maintains your preferences*, so just uninstall.
*They should I say; but please don't hunt me down if in your case they don't, okay.

If you get rid of the .ini itself, you just lose all the settings you made under Tools>Avant Browser Options. Other settings like Groups and Ad and Popup black and white lists are in separate subfolders of that same folder, so you can pick what you want to get rid of and keep, the whole lot or just the .ini or any combination between.

Don't forget about moving your skins file if you are uninstalling.

Sorry Sara, I thought you knew!

Yeah, the skins on the other hand are in the same folder as the program, wherever you installed that to (Usually C:\Program Files|Avant Browser).

The settings (including the .ini) are in C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data\Avant Browser

What I meant to say was that those setting inder the .ini will only take a couple of minutes to reset if you delete it. And if there is a problem, it's most likely that it is in this file, so I'd start by just deleting that.

I've never had a problem installing over an older version.

Actually it works just as well installing previous versions over newer ones!

But I do know that it causes some other people problems, so I will end my post here.

Personally, I think a lot of that has to do with keeping Avant open in the system tray, as I never un-install, either. (Although I have a couple of times to test things)

Does anyone know if keeping Avant open in the system tray is still the default option if you download for the first time? I bet changing that would fix a lot of bad ".ini" issues.

Freezes

Post by hebalder » Sun Mar 28, 2004 3:53 pm

Hello,

here is an other reason for the freezes:

(if a domain is organized with framesets (?) and ...) you click on a link from a child window with "iso-8859-1" based meta-charset information to a linked document with "utf-8" charset information the avant freezes. But only (!) when you have other windows in avant opened. With only one window opened it's all ok. I can reproduce it.

It seems so, that the avant will confused with different charset informations.

Sorry for my "german" english.

Hello,

i will put together a frameset/charset szenario in the next days (the intranet documents are confidential)

The beta 9 still freezes.

If freezing, the gui (menues, buttons) still working, but network communication to all external domains (routed trough an proxy) is disrupted. When I minimize the avant window the avant process terminates (without a message) !!!

Favorite context menu does not go away when I move the mouse outside its area...

Look HERE (rightclick -> save with name; then pls see the movie)

Here's a flash version of crom's video:

http://www.krinj.net/misc/Ab_ContextMenu.swf.html

I've seen this happen in other programs as well, such as mouseworks. It might be a Windows problem, but if it happens everytime it's probably an Avant problem.
