Post by Anderson » Thu Jun 23, 2005 4:54 pm

Avant Browser 10.1 beta 7

http://dl.filekicker.com/send/file/1459 ... /avant.exe

This version contains almost all new features I want to release in 10.1. I will release a new official version once the translations are finished. If you find any bug, please be sure to let me know.

Dear all Moderators,
In this version I added "Getting Started Wizard". If you know any options that users always question about, and think it would be good to let users set the option before using Avant Browser, please let me know. The Wizard will be display only once.

Major Changes:

Maintain Width/Height ratio when zoom pictures.
Added Context Menu to group links
Added Context Menu to Back/Forward drop-down menu
Added Getting Start Wizard dialog
Accept to drop a list of URLs, and open them one by one.
Added Copy URL button to the float bar.
Added Open in New Window button on the float bar.
Save Options in "Open a Link" dialog.
New Favorite Context Menu Item: Added Favorite to a folder.

Looking forward your feedback.

Anderson

What is "New Favorite Context Menu Item: Added Favorite to a folder"?

I was able to figure the rest of them out.

(For anyone else unsure about "Accept to drop a list of URLs, and open them one by one", it's what was requested here.)

Great product. How can I get hide the toolbar where the "other" buttons sit? Also, will skins be available in next non beta release? No complaints otherwise. Two thumbs up. :D

Uncheck them all. That will remove the bar.

That's a new little "bug?"

Unlocking the toolbar, dragging it out on its own, and click the small x gets rid of it, but then it doesn't seem you can get it back.

edit: Actually, switching from Compact to Normal mode brings it back.

Right click a folder in favorites, you can add a site to that folder.

Very nice work Anderson. :D Thanks.

Some thoughts,

Now that we have the option to open a new Avant instance, I think people are going to get confused with the "Open in new window" term. They may expect that to open something in a new instance of AB. Would the term "Open in new tab" be a better choice of words?

I like the getting started wizard. Here are some suggestions.

Wizard suggestions

1. One thing I see people getting confused with is the tray icon. They think they are closing AB but they actually minimized it to the tray. Perhaps you could add an option to the wizard to enable or disable it.

2. Default search engine - Google or Avantfind

3. Some people complain AB looks bloated when first installed. How about an option to install with a slimmed down configuration with only the bare minimum of toolbars & icons showing.

Possible bug,

This button doesn't seem to work -> "Added Open in New Window button on the float bar."

Thats all for now.

Thanks for the pointer, bigC. Are you trying that new button on a picture in a webpage? It works for me there.

I was trying it on an image that I had already opened in a new window and it wouldn't work there, though.

In regards to the tray icon, I agree with bigC, but think that the Minimize to system tray, when click [Close] button should be off by default. Keep the option, of course, but I wouldn't automatically turn that on just because someone wants a tray icon.

Weird. Something is buggy. I tried it on Anderson's and it opened in Paint.

I tried it on mine and nothing happened.

I tried it on jkdclick's and it worked fine.

I wonder what's going on.

Your image is too small for the toolbar to even show for me. How'd you do that?

Another weird thing happened, I clicked the editors icon next to that one & the icon just disappeared. I tried it twice more then it worked correctly, the menu appeared. weird

Edit: ok now the Save and Email buttons don't work. ???

I had temporarily swapped it. It's not working on this for me, either.

Isn't there a minimum size threshold, so it comes up for pics but not icons?

Great new features, Anderson!

Yeah, we're talking about the icons on the bar once it shows.
