Dismayed, disheartened, and disappointed

That's how I feel after waiting 39 days for a new build and finding out that, once again, the changes in the new build (112) include only a handful of relatively minor bug fixes (and updated versions of the Firefox and Chrome engines).

There are quite a few outstanding bugs that are much more serious and that affect most, if not all, Avant users that have not been fixed, but build 112 doesn't include fixes for any of these. Instead, it fixes nine relatively obscure and less serious bugs that affect only a very small number of Avant users. Why were these somewhat insignificant bugs assigned a high priority level while much more important bugs are being ignored? At this rate, the serious bugs won't be addressed in 2013 at all.

Of the nine bugs fixed in build 112, only one could be considered fairly important ("Chrome engine processes don't exit automatically when close Avant"). All the rest of them won't even be noticed by the vast majority of users.

There are many bugs still to be fixed that interfere with everyone's use of Avant, such as the multiple focus issues (where Avant comes to the front when it shouldn't, windows and dialog boxes open behind Avant instead of in front, the rendering pane isn't always at the same focus level as the Avant UI, etc., etc.). These are just a few examples. There are many more.

  • Already, it has been more than four months (since mid-April 2013) since the roll-out of the widely-panned and frequently-despised AB 2013 build 100 series, starting with Avant Browser 2013 alpha 100. I don't know why I cling to the ever-distant hope that sanity will return to the developer(s) and that we'll get a new build of a usable, working version of Avant Browser. If four months of complaints and defections and user contributions haven't brought Anderson to his senses, nothing will.
