For the context of my decision to install Avant 2013 Beta2, please see http://forum.avantbrowser.com/viewtopic ... 88#p188788 ... Here are a few comments after 20 minutes or so of testing, so soon because I ran into a showstopper (severe bug) with using my preferred Firefox rendering mode and had to stop using it.

Wow, the new Avant user interface (UI) certainly is a big change from previous versions. Obviously a LOT of work has gone into this, congratulations to the Avant team!

I initially had quite some trouble finding how/where to change the Avant options: default rendering mode, skin, placement of tab rows on bottom, and others that I usually tailor. There wasn't any "Tools" and other familiar menus at top, but after a while by chance I clicked on the "Avant [A]" icon and out popped a 2-column table of the usual Avant options.

OVERALL LAYOUT OPTIONS?
Couldn't find any way to have the tabs at bottom of screen which I always (reason: to remove "clutter" at top of screen), nor to alter the skins (reason: I find that AthenX skin displays the active tab noticeably darker than the inactive tabs). IN IE rendering mode can't hide the RoboForm toolbar when I don't need it (but this is the same for earlier Avant versions).

FIREFOX RENDERING MODE?
This is my preferred rendering engine, a top priority (reason: a carefully-selected set of add-ons to increase productivity, and built-ins like the Firefox spell checker). As soon as I switched to Firefox default rendering mode all **** broke out -- I kept getting repeated dialog boxes...

XUL RUNNER
------------------------------------------------------------------
Error: Platform version 17.0.1 is not compatible with
minVersion >- 18.0.1
maxVersion <= 18.0.1

What would cause this basic Firefox error?
What will fix this (my main priority)?

UNEXPECTED CHANGE BACK TO OLDER USER INTERFACE:
Finally, I switched over to Chrome rendering mode, not my favorite. Then switched to IE rendering mode. After restarting Avant 2013 Beta2 the new 2013 UI had disappeared, and it appeared now to be like the Avant 2012 UI with the tabs at bottom, ability to select skin (AthenX of course), and so on. Why did the new 2013 UI go away so unexpectedly? What could be happening?

Cannot put tabs at the bottom if you use the opal and stickers skins. This feature still available when using old skins.

A re-installation can fix the problem.

Cannot reproduce this problem...

This bug hasn't been fixed yet. Beta 2 didn't fix any problem, just updated the firefox/chrome engine.

xiaobing, for the moment I have switched back to 2012 build 197 version, so as to get some useful work done.

Reinstalling the 2013 Beta3 version did not fix this major problem I'm having [with 2013 version] using Firefox rendering mode, always getting that same XULRunner error dialog complaining about not being at 18.0.1 Gecko level.

It's still early in my exploration of Avant 2013, and I certainly will get back to it after performing some other necessary tasks under build 197. Can you provide any further advice?

Could it be any of your Firefox plugins do not support FF/Gecko ver. 18?

Or perhaps it's Avant? Maybe there's some leftover v.17 XULRunner/UI code that's not compatible with the FF/Gecko v.18 engine?

Make sure no firefox.exe is running in taskmanager when you update. You might also try deleting the gecko folder and firefox.exe in ABs folder first.
