Odd anomaly - Firefox.

Post by mathman » Wed Aug 29, 2012 11:11 pm

Occasionally I have discovered that Firefox and Avant with Firefox rendering act differently. The latest has to do with a bug in the New York Times sports section. It has web pages to display the day's results in tennis matches. The bug was a problem in a header line which has two parts, which should appear side by side. Instead the right side part overwrote the left side.

I reported the problem to the paper a few days ago and it has since been corrected (almost). As of today it still appears in Firefox, but it does not appear in Avant with Firefox. Note that in all other renderings of Avant, as well as IE9 and Chrome the problem has been fixed. I have reported this current situation to the Times. I am curious as to how come there is this discrepancy in Firefox handling?

Have you checked to see if you have the same version of Firefox and the Firefox engine in Avant? Firefox 15 was released yesterday, and Avant build 181 also has the Firefox 15 engine. If you haven't updated one or the other, you might not have the same version of the engine.

That is exactly why I am puzzled. I have the latest versions of both Avant and Firefox.

I am still somewhat confused, but the anomaly seems to be gone. Both Firefox's give correct result.

I strongly suspect that the people responsible for maintaining NY Times on-line simply fixed it, although I was never told about it.
