Anyone use Adblock Pro ?

Post by creep » Tue Dec 28, 2010 10:02 pm

Does anyone use Adblock Pro ? Do you use it with a Windows 7 ?

For me, it works fine if I am logged on as Admin.

As a Standard user it does nothing. I want it to work for a Standard user. Have you got it working for a Standard user ?

How did you do it ? What settings did you make ?

In reply to my own question - in case anyone is interested - there is an ad blocker which is free (donationware) and works very well with Avant ... AdFender

Note that you can then turn off the ad blocker and pop-up blocker which comes with Avant.

Avant does a good blocking job up to a point, but AdFender works much better - at least, it does for me.

(Ad Muncher also works very well, but has an annual licence fee which makes it costly. )

You should try "Do Not Track Plus". It's a freebie, highly configurable and comes with full documentation... Only caveat is you have to set it up with IE (without Avant) every time you want to make changes to the options. The settings/info pop-ups don't work under IE8 with Avant, even though it still works. It may give you the interface with IE9 with Avant using Win 7.

I'll check it out....

Update: I tried to go directly to their website but got a 403; login required. Went to another site that carried it and read all about it. It sounds good, but it don't do everything Privoxy does, like prevent them from tracking you.
To give you an idea, here's the blurp from Privoxy's web page:
Privoxy is a non-caching web proxy with advanced filtering capabilities for enhancing privacy, modifying web page data and HTTP headers, controlling access, and removing ads and other obnoxious Internet junk. Privoxy has a flexible configuration and can be customized to suit individual needs and tastes. It has application for both stand-alone systems and multi-user networks.
Sooooo, I think I'll just stick with Privoxy. :)
