And I also want to commend Jasmine for being the lifeblood of Avant through the last few years. The PR Secretary (  jk) has done a wonderful job dealing with everyone's issues. If it weren't for her patience and helpfullness I don't know what this place would be like.

Another feature that would be nice to see is the recently closed tab's feature that FireFox has. It has definitely helped in FF when closing tabs then realizing later I there's something I could use from that page I was at, or when accidentally closing a tab that was on a very specific page.

View > Customize Buttons > Standard Buttons... enable the button called Closed or SHFT+CTRL+Z will open the last closed tab.

You may also use the menu to reopen a closed tab by selecting

File
Open Recent
and the selecting either
Undo Close (to reopen the just-closed tab)
OR selecting one of the several recently closed tab URLs from the list

Microsoft IE9: Windows XP Stymies Widespread Adoption

Post by Pip » Tue Sep 21, 2010 3:43 pm

http://www.pcworld.com/article/205578/m ... ption.html

Browser rivals have used IE9's no-XP policy as marketing ammunition. New versions from Mozilla and Google , for example, are to land later this year with limited hardware acceleration under XP .

"Firefox accelerates for Windows XP users too, something Microsoft says they can't do," said Aza Dotzler, Mozilla's lead technology evangelist, last week. "If Mozilla can accelerate browsing for the hundreds of millions of PC users on Microsoft's Windows XP, why can't Microsoft?"

Chrome will also feature partial hardware acceleration for Windows XP with version 7, which should be in users' hands in two months or less.

IE8, which debuted in March 2009 and currently has a 31.4% share, will be the most modern Microsoft browser available to Windows XP users through the operating system's support cut-off in April 2014.

Anderson: Something else that would be nice is to see Avant get speed dials like Opera has. Open a new blank page and you have several boxes each with a customizable site link. Google is almost there and Maxthon is already there. Lets make Avant the best evar!

Hi, Anderson!

It's been a while since I've posted on these forums, and it's good to see that Avant Browser is still the greatest IE based browser available for Windows.

I'm using a Mac now, but I have a Windows 7 virtual machine that I've installed Avant Browser 2010 onto, so that I may continue to follow its progress.

Cheers! ;)

Please provide the following information before reporting problems:
Avant Version; System(also point out it is a 32 or 64-bit OS);IE; Memory Size; CPU Speed;
Optional: Firewall; Graphics Card

For the problems hard to replay, could you add me into your MSN or Skype list if you use either of them? The advantage is that you can let us know the situation in the first place by making some screenshots, sharing your screen or explaining the specific problems more clearly when they happen.

Thanks. It's actually a revision of my original avatar I was using way back when, probably three or four years ago. It was the same little Servbot guy, but with a different art style and holding the old Avant Browser logo.

I thought it was time for a refresh. ;)

7. Integrate Firefox/Gecko render engine (Orca will be merged into Avant Browser).
8. Integrate Chrome's render engine.
How it will work ?
There will be option to choose one of those engine or what ?
Avant will still support IE engine or only gecko and chrome now ?
So Orca Browser Development is stopped and abandoned I think.
Will you add gecko/chrome engine autoupdate in order to have it's engine always actual?
Will there be support for firefox/chrome plugins ?
Please add Orca settings/autofills/passwords/cookies etc import to a new Avant.
Maybe you should cooperate with more programmers in order to make new avant avaialble earlier

Yes, Mozilla addons will work with the new Avant. No word on Chrome extensions yet.
Yes, Avant will have all three engines(Trident(IE),Gecko, and Webkit)
I am sure that you will be able to import your settings to the new Avant.
How you switch between engines is not determined yet.
No info on how the engines will update. If it will without a new build.
So far as I know Orca development will be halted.

I'm not sure if Support for IE is stille needed because there is not available version of IE9 for Win XP, and IE8 is outdated now but I know that a lot people still uses it.
Gecko and Chrome ? I think that this is too much now. Both engines are similar and support the same technologies.
It will be better to support two engines (ie, gecko) and do it perfectly.

I would like also see support for CCleaner and SpywareBlaster (work with these developers)
As well as Popup Blocker with updating list of types of popups.
And built in support for AdBlock/Flashblock

Hey,

I was wondering if you could add in a feature which I've felt missing throughout Avant/Orca's growth. That is the ability to export your "URL Alias" list. I remember when I first got Avant, I had like 40 nice shortcuts. Next fresh install of Avant, I only put in about 25. I kept re-inputing about 10 for the next few Avant/Orca versions. However, with the latest Orca I have (the 2009 version), I didn't have the heart to input them again, knowing that any future versions, or new installs will just mean losing them, given that there is no export option.

So, it went that a very useful feature, was eventually lost to me, mainly because of my laziness, but caused by inability to export them. Now I realized too late that there was probably just a file somewhere in the Orca/Avant profile folders that I could just copy and paste into every new install. However, this method is not likely to be realized by the non-computer savvy.

Anyways, just thought I'd add my 2 cents: Export option for URL Alias would be great.

Enjoy.

I concur with you fakenjones. The URL Alias is one of my favorite features about Avant and a way to maintain it between releases would be wonderful.

You can use the Backup/Restore Profiles feature under the Tools menu to save the aliases..

Oh true, I guess you guys must've added it to the newer Avant versions. I don't see it in my latest Orca build. Thanks though.

Regarding the Download Manager:

Could you, if time permits: Allow it to use up the space in the status bar below. That space is often unused. Thanks.
