Not quite what you asked for, but maybe this addon may interest you: MHP - Speed Dial (realtime)

The problem that I have with browser:home is that it always retains the list of Recently Bookmarked, is it possible to erase the list of recently bookmarked links?

Afraid not, the date is embedded in bookmarks.dat - but there is a "hack":

- Export all of your bookmarks (File >> Export Bookmarks...)
- Delete all of your bookmarks (In the Orgranise Bookmarks section)
- Import them back in File >> Import.. >> Bookmarks from Mozilla/Firefox

The bookmarks will end up in a bookmark folder named Mozilla, but just drag them all into the root bookmark folder in the Orgranise Bookmarks section in one go.

I hate the recent bookmark feature in browser:home too, so that is what I did.

I actually like it a lot. I just wish it was a bit more customizable. I think it shows some promise for where Avant Browser is headed. I think if you you're going to have a fast web browser, with a fast HTML paser, then that's all you really need. Why waste resources on the interface, when HTML's whole purpose is to build an interface? Some people don't realize it, but using a pure HTML interface is actually simplifying the web browser, which makes it perform better.

Of course "browser:home" is just another feature. Like I said, it shows some real promise for where Avant is headed, which offers me some reassurance.

You just know that by saying that, all the Web 2.0 people would disagree with you, right? :-)

Personally, I'm inclined to agree with you, addonsfan, but there are more and more websites making good use of Web 2.0/AJAX development. The strong point of AJAX sites is that it makes use of client-side processing to do simpler updates so that a round-trip request-possible server processing-response-reparsing is not required. Many AJAX websites are "snappier" in response because of this, one example being GMail, and especially the initial user response when it was first deployed.

So, looking forward, I would definitely add one more item to your list of "all you really need", and that is of course a fast Javascript processing engine, which is what makes Web 2.0/AJAX work.

I agree... I guess what I meant by "html paser" is the Trident engine itself, as a whole. Then again, is the JS engine actually combined with the HTML paser engine for Trident?

No, even for IE, the HTML parser/rendering engine is separate from the Javascript engine.

Trident is Microsoft's rendering for IE ( unless it is the Tasman rendering engine for IE for Mac, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tasman_(layout_engine) )

IE's mixed up Microsoft JScript/Javascript processing engine is commonly called Microsoft JScript.

Thanks kudos. It just really surprised me that Avant would build in a feature that breached customers privacy and provided details of pages that you had bookmarked to others that use your PC (even after you had deleted them). I just hope they don't keep doing stuff like this or I for one will move on and no longer make any further donations to Avant, cheers.

You must bear in mind that most computers have separate accounts for each user. That's why Windows has MY documents, MY music, etc. Each user would not see the other's bookmarks, etc. So this could be a really useful feature for a lot of users. But I agree, an option to disable and/or clear the list would be advantageous.

BTW - I did not realise that the list contained deleted bookmarks too, I must check that out.

That is interesting about the bookmarks list, but I'd be willing to bet it's due to lack of programming for unforeseen circumstances rather than an intentional effort to breach privacy. Usually when someone what's to breach someone's privacy, it's so that they can get the information... not some people they'll never meet who just happen to be sitting at your computer.

Like I said earlier, I like this page, but I think it should be considered a "work in progress." Unfortunately, I get the feeling that this is another one of those features that has been introduced and then is never tweaked.

Is there any way to delete this page from the "New" button, or from Avant completely? I don't use it, don't want to use it, and tbh, was annoyed when it was first forced on us.
Ha, ha ha! Very funny!

Is it really that hard to avoid clicking on it?

Yea you can change it to where it will never come up. Just change the default on the new tab button from browser:Home to blank page or whatever other choice you prefer.
