Problems opening PDF's

Post by AB240117 » Tue Jan 24, 2017 10:31 am

I have suddenly run into problems opening PDF's downloaded from various websites using Avant Browser. When I download a PDF it appears in Avant Downloader with the file extension .jspx instead of .pdf. I am then unable to open the file using my PDF reader. I have tried 4 different PDF readers and all three Avant rendering engines but the problem persists. I can however download and open the same PDF's using either Chrome or Firefox browsers. Any help would be appreciated

Can you provide some specific links? It's weird that it's happening to all as we use Avant to open them all day and haven't experienced any issues. If it's not an Avant issue, it almost sounds like there could either be interference from an ad blocker of some type (I would assume Avant's since it's happening with all engines) or there's been a change in Windows' file associations.

Thanks for your response. After further investigation I have found that all of the sites giving this problem are secure sites which I have to log in to access (eg. energy supplier, banking etc). PDF's from non-secure sites open ok. Therefore I cannot give you any specific links. However I have established that the problem is something to do with Avant Downloader. If I download a PDF from the problem sites just using the browser (i.e. not Avant downloader), the document appears as XXXXXXXXXXX.pdf and opens fine. If I download exactly the same document allowing Avant Downloader to handle the download it appears as XXXXXXXXXXX.jspx and subsequently will not open. I hope this makes sense.

I haven't tried confirming your theory about Avant's downloader, but it makes sense as we don't use it at all.

I neither use the Avant downloader, but i tried it with some site to download a pdf with avant downloader. It downloaded it as .asp file.

With Avant downloader disabled it downloads just normal as pdf.
So it's just a bug in Avant downloader i guess.

2 things you can do:

1. rename that .jspx to .pdf

2. disable Avant downloader: click menu--> Downloads--> options on the right--> uncheck "Take over Browser's File download"

Thanks for your suggestions.
The renaming idea doesn't seem to work for me, but I am now disabling Avant Downloader for the problem sites and that works fine.
Hopefully this fault in Avant Downloader will get fixed.
