Avant Window Problems

I'm running Ult 2016 b5 and having issues with Avant windows. I have a two-monitor system running Windows 7 x64. I use an older skin (Crystal) because I like having a real menu system. My issues:

- Avant window does not remember where it was closed - always opens in a fixed location that is offset over both screens (not centered).
- Last window size is not remembered
- Hiding and then opening Avant results in the browser tab window on one screen, and Avant menu and outer borders on the other
- Browser window is often larger than the viewport, usually overflowing at the bottom (some page content is not visable), which is fixed when I resize the Avant window.

This is getting steadily worse. It appears to happen no matter which engine I am using, but the default is Firefox. I've restored my profile from previous backups and done everything short of wiping my profile and starting from scratch, which takes quite some time to restore manually. I use Avant for everything. Is there some way I can troubleshoot and correct this, perhaps reset a portion of the profile or the place where the last window settings info is stored? I have no other programs with these issues.

Is your Avant window on first screen or second ?
Do you set to display confirmation when openning saved pages?
When I put Avant on the second screen and close and then reopen Avant, the re-open window always display on the first screen. This is the only problem I see here.

I move the Avant window from time to time. Most of the time it opens on the 2nd screen, which is my primary screen for the desktop. When I move it to the first screen and close it, thereafter Avant always opens the control window on the first screen, and the actual browser content window on the second screen. No matter where the control window is when I close it, Avant gets "stuck" on the first screen.

I've tried moving Avant to the second screen and closing it, rebooting and then reopening it, and it always goes back to the first screen as above. Even when I minimize Avant and reopen it, it comes back as shown. Now I can't get it to open on the second screen as it used to.

How do I fix this short of (again) wiping my profile and starting over from scratch? Is there a specific file, ini, or registry setting I can modify to fix this?

"Display confirmation when opening saved pages" is checked.

Of course, as soon as I resize or move the control window, the browser content window snaps back, but then I have to drag everything over to the second screen on the left - where I prefer it.

I set up my new system a month or so ago and had the same problem. I've been using a program called DisplayFusion for multi-monitor support and hadn't installed it at that point. I didn't start using that program because of Avant's window issues, but it appears to have fixed a lot of them for me. I still have issues from time to time, infrequently, where switching focus back to Avant will cause the browsing window to jump to my first monitor while keeping the UI on my fourth.

I use the pro version of DisplayFusion, which I think is $30 or something like that (I could be wrong), but other than that screen issue, it's multi-monitor window control (which includes stuff like monitor selection for apps, etc.) works well enough that I had forgotten what an issue Avant has with it.

Personally, I don't see large enough of an advantage in the 'tab crashes, but UI still works' functionality to make up for the mess and overall unstableness Avant has become since that change, but I doubt that will ever change. I believe it was the purpose behind the re-write from so long ago, so I doubt another rewrite is in Avant's future. Which is a shame. I used to help out here really having no issue with Avant. Most issues posters had were typically solved by finding a conflict with other software or changing a setting they didn't realize was selected. I think the majority of answers these days are what I'm about to tell you...

I think to get Avant functioning the way you want, you're going to have to look into a piece of software that overrides Windows' monitor/desktop handling and takes it out of Avant's hands. I don't think anyone working on development uses more than a single monitor enough to realize (or care about?) the issues Avant has with it. (Like that thin strip of Avant that bleeds over into the other monitor... it's been there since day one.) Probably not the answer you were looking for, but like I said, I'd forgotten about all of the issues until setting my new system up.

It appears you are right, hornakapopolis. Even after several updates, these windows issues are still present and continue to be a pain. I can go for weeks without an issue, and then one day I'll start up Avant and the window issue is back - for no apparent reason. It really is too bad that Avant has become unstable to the point of people like me having to move to other browsers. And the standard answer of "reset your profile" isn't a real solution - it's just a band-aid that works for a while. There is definitely something going on with profile or Avant config corruption.

As an example, I just started Avant and all my autofills were missing. Shut it down and restarted and they are back. ???
