Does one rendering engine work better than the other two?

Post by Brainetree » Sun Dec 16, 2012 2:16 pm

I'm using the Avant Ultimate version and am wondering if one rendering engine works better and smoother than the other two, or if there's no noticeable difference between them.

I'd have to vote for the Firefox engine. :thumbup:

I had used only the IE variant of AB until that period in development (a year ago?) when there were SO MANY PROBLEMS with ybrowser.exe. To be free of those problems, I "temporarily" switched to using the Firefox rendering engine, discovered some of the very useful Firefox add-ons, and have never looked back.

Thank you, brawnymike. I will try Firefox too. The Chrome engine seems to be working good too.

I agree. Overall, the Firefox engine is the best of the three. There are some sites and some buttons on some sites that don't work right with the Firefox engine, and I've learned that when something doesn't seem to be working to try reloading the site with IE or Chrome, but overall, I work with the Firefox engine as much as possible.

There are also many more extensions available for Firefox than either of the others.

Personally, I feel single process rendering mode like firefox engine saves memory, while multi-process rendering mode like chrome engine wastes memery. I don't like chrome itself either. Everytime I run it, my machine turns slower and slower even with only 2 tabs open.

Please provide the following information before reporting problems:
Avant Version; System(also point out it is a 32 or 64-bit OS);IE; Memory Size; CPU Speed;
Optional: Firewall; Graphics Card

For the problems hard to replay, could you add me into your MSN or Skype list if you use either of them? The advantage is that you can let us know the situation in the first place by making some screenshots, sharing your screen or explaining the specific problems more clearly when they happen.

I was a big Orca fan, makes sense. This is great to know, Jasmine, and thank you for the feedback everyone. I'm switching to the Firefox engine for a while to try it out.
