Does Avant Chrome engine automatically update Flash?

Post by Nixxxed » Wed Aug 22, 2012 2:17 am

I'm confused. The Adobe Flash download page says the Chrome browser auto-updates Flash. Is this true for the Avant Chrome engine, or do we have to manually update Flash? If so, how?

I have auto-update on both Flash and Java turned off. I only recently started using the Chrome engine, and I'm due for an update on both programs.

Here's a link to Adobe's Flash / Chrome info page: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/ ... hrome.html

I looked through the Avant FAQ and Wiki, but didn't find anything on this subject, for any of the 3 engines. Perhaps that information can be added? For instance: if Avant's Chrome engine includes Flash, do we need the Active-X or Plugin version of Flash at all? I haven't had to use the IE or Firefox engine in at least a month - everything has worked well with the Chrome engine.

Thanks! I've also attached screencaps of what I'm seeing in my browser in regards to the Flash updates, in case others are getting different messages.

Doesn't chrome have its own flash plugin?

According to the Adobe link I posted, Flash is integrated into the Chrome browser and updates itself.

I'm trying to find out if this is true for Avant, when I'm using its Chrome engine.

To my knowledge, the built-in flash plugin is already updated the moment that avant browser upgrades chrome core. It won't auto-upgrade before the next upgrade of chrome engine in avant browser. Maybe chrome browser itself keeps upgrading flash plugin, but avant browser won't keep in step unless it upgrades chrome engine. As for how to upgrade flash plugin manually, it depends on avant's pace in upgrading chrome engine and you're unlikely to control it other than upgrading avant browser. I have yet to confirm my answer with Anderson.

Thank you! I appreciate your confirming the information.

The Chrome engine has worked great for me. I'm glad to know I won't have to worry about manually updating or checking Flash versions any longer.
