A better download manager

Post by SKJoy2001 » Sat Nov 20, 2004 8:22 pm

I think it is better to match a FREEWARE with a FREEWARE. On the AB download page, Anderson suggests FlashGet as the download companion for AB users. Of course FlashGet is good, but I think there is another download manager out there that is competent enough, in fact, better than FlashGet, LeechGet, ReGet and other so many download managers. After all, it is FREEWARE, no advertising, no nagging. When installing, it offers you to install NavExcell, simply select NO to avoid installing it (I'm sure they'll remove it in the near future)! It is Free Download Manager.

Try out Image & let me know if I am wrong.

I'm hesitant to use anything with the word 'free' in it's title.

why don't u just visit their site for the fact? well, they are seriously thinking of changing the name. it is really the former W3Get download manager, unlike others, this application got FREEWARE from SHAREWARE :)

I agree. The title's too vague. What does this thing do? And do I have to pay for it?

it is the combined power of GetRight, LeechGet & ReGet Delux. So, there is nothing left for a download manager to be!

IT IS 101% FREEWARE!

I don't think Chandu did anything wrong. It is true that we wish people would edit their posts instead of replying to oneself, but as you see Chandu's posts are many days apart from the other. An Edit would not show up as a new post, so no one would notice that a new post was made in this thread. The idea of editing a post instead of replying to oneself is for quick replies where the original post would be seen as new to most people coming to the forum.

No it is not....

ANYTHING that bundles spyware (in this case, NavExcell) as part of the "package" should NEVER be called freeware IMHO, it's spyware, plain and simple (the fact you can "opt" not to install it during the installation, does not and should not negate nor change that).

It doesn't install SyWare
Opt out the checkbox while installing FDM not to install NavExcel (Chandu must have missed it). Scanned with AdAware SE & McAfee, NavExcel was not found. Watched with ProcessExplorer, no NavExcel background process was found.

Freeware != OpenSource
Freeware doesn't mean OpenSource, it just means you don't have to pay for using it.

I never said it _installs_ spyware, I said I personally class it as spyware due to it's bundling (for want of a better word), spyware in it's installation program (optional or otherwise)

He was referring to an earlier post by someone else. And I think what that poster was referring to was how someone had said that it was 101% freeware. (I thought it was rather funny, Wilson. ;)
