Good Plugins for Avant

Not all IE plugins will work with Avant, especially not those that want to display a toolbar, but some are really excellent. Here are a couple of my favorites. If you've tried one and like it, add it here.

IESpell http://download.com.com/3000-2378-10220 ... g=lst-0-21 (F)

Check your spelling before you post! Won't create a toolbar button under IE of course but appears in the right-click menu. A really excellent tool. If you know your way around Windows you can make it use the same Custom Ditionary as Word does too.

Here's a selection of useful IE plugins, including a partial source viewer for examing the code of any part of a page you select:

Dictionary.com (F)

This toolbar won't display in Avant - but that's okay as it's really ugly! Much better though, it makes dictionary and thesaurus definitions available from the right-click menu.

Only one drawback - it launches an IE Window. Oh well.

I guess these should be mentioned here as well,
bigC wrote:(F) Flash Saving Plugin 1.1
Saves flash .swf files. It works in AB via r-click, I just tried.

(F) SavePicNoAsk Light 1.1
Internet Explorer (IE) add-on intended to free a user from necessity to enter a file name when saving an image. All you have to do is just right-click an image and select Save Picture in the IE context menu. Says it works in AB but I didn't try yet.

They have a bunch of neat tools there actually. Check it out

(F) Trust Setter adds right-click Security Zone functionality to Avant:
http://www.jasons-toolbox.com/programs. ... t%20Setter

Basically, it's a quick & easy way to add sites to IE's Trusted and Restricted Zones. This allows you to set up a list of Trusted Sites where it's safe to have otherwise dangerous ActiveX & other scripting enabled and vice-versa. (You know, the code that lets spyware sneak onto your system, triggers popups, etc.) It's a lot faster & simpler than digging through the menus to get to these settings, and nice since the similar IE Power Tweaks don't work in Avant. Now only if Avant would show you what Security Zone you're browsing in- that would be fantastic! [-o<

I know, yeah. I actually don't have the plug in installed. People asked for this feature in AB so I posted about the plugin.

Just noticed this post ...

I already have this as an entry in Avant's Search Engine - Quick Search aliases :-

`d` `dictionary.reference.com/search?q=%s`

e.g. `d supercalifragilisticexpialidocious` in address bar

Works for me :D

I don't use a thesaurus much, but thesaurus.reference.com takes exactly the same input if you need it.

This in response to donkeyj's message about Netsnippets. I agree Netsnippets is a great program and although it doesn't have a toolbar that integrates with Avant it doesn't need to because all you need to do is right click on any website, highlight any text then just right click on it and you have an option to save it to Netsnippets. The only thing I don't understand is why you listed it as being a "trial" version with a price tag of $79.95 when there is a free version of the program. The free version, which I use, is perfect for simple note taking about websites, saving them, saving text from websites and simple stuff like that. On the other hand, the $79.95 price is for those looking to be authors, book writers, journalists and so forth. So for most online use I'd get the free version if I were everybody here.

Customize Google

From Site: http://www.cg4ie.com/

Customize Google for IE (CG4IE) is an Internet Explorer extension that enhances Google search results. Google has long been one of the most useful tools on the Net, but frequent search engine users may find they can make it even more efficient. Customize Google for IE is an extension for Internet Explorer that adds options to an ordinary Google Search, providing additional links to sources such as Yahoo, Wikipedia, or MSN, Depending on the specifics of the search. Google suggest is set by default so as you type, Google will offer suggestions. CG4IE can be set to add a link to the Wayback Machine, which enables users to see pages that have vanished from the Net.

• Use Google Suggest (suggest words while you're typing)

• Add links to competitors

• Rewrite links to point straight to the images in Google Images

• Secure Gmail and Google Calendar, switch to https

• Block Google Analytics cookies

• Anonymize your Google userid

• Add a result counter in search result

• Add links to WayBack Machine (webpage history)

• Remove click tracking

Thanks to bigC for pointing me to this thread when I had requested an addon that funtions like the CustomizeGoogle!

I was wondering if the software mentioned just above could be made into and addon so that it warks with the regular search bar ... or alternatively a seperate search bar ... and the regular one could be switched off!

Thanks & Cheers!

I don't think so.
