Check out the Avant Force Blog as I have written a post about Avant being selected as one of the 12 browsers being included on IE's new Ballot Screen as a solution to the Anti-Trust issues the EU had with bundling Internet Explorer with Windows.

Looks like it's happening on March 1st:

Microsoft offers web browser choice to IE users
Millions of European Internet Explorer (IE) users will have the option to choose an alternative browser from 1 March, Microsoft has announced.

It follows a legal agreement between Microsoft and Europe's Competition Commission in December 2009.

Microsoft committed to letting Windows PC users across Europe install the web browser of their choice, rather than having Microsoft IE as a default.

Figures suggest that over half the world's internet users have IE.

Testing for the update is already underway in the UK, Belgium and France.

The software update choice will arrive automatically for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 customers, according to a blog post by Dave Heiner, Microsoft's vice president and deputy general counsel.

The blog also contains screen grabs of the message as it will appear.

"Users who get the choice screen will be free to choose any browser or stick with the browser they have, as they prefer," wrote Mr Heiner.

Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera are the alternative browsers that people will be offered.

"Millions of people who have never really thought about which browser to use will now be forced to make a choice," said BBC technology correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones on his blog.

"That presents Microsoft's rivals with a unique marketing opportunity."

Mozilla Foundation chair Mitchell Baker described the news as "an important milestone towards helping people take control of their online lives."

Those of you who already have an alternative browser set will not see the ballot:
The browser ballot will see anyone with Internet Explorer installed as their default browser offered a range of alternatives, primarily Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Opera. The browsers will be offered in random order, along with a button that allows the user to instantly download and install the browser.
Oh, and those of you not in the European Commission area.

I thought IE 8 was suppose to have a bunch of browsers to choose from how does it work.As i am close to getting it. Now i looked at serveral computers and all of those one have starter edition. Now maby you will remember i bought this piece of crap $599 unit it came with a vista starter and no cd the same with windows 7.So i asked the guy and he said this was future shop he then said the windows 7 starter version installed. But he said the starter version is limited but a cd with all the different versions and you then pick one you then want to buy As as before there is no drivers cd either that is to say ACER and such . Now i am having one built but money is tight right now. :)

They used THAT logo for Avant? That is so old and ugly. They could of used the Forum logo or something other than that crap. That looks so amateur.

I guess unless Anderson/Jasmine picked that out then its alright..lol
