Re: Why do I see "Your PC has Windows 8 but the info on this page is about Windows 8.1. Update now" message but I am on

You've added it in the wrong location.

Correct location and string spec:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings

Type: String Value

Re: Windows Security Alert

To identify the IP, locate the DNS query and response, the IP will be shown in the packet details window (see screenshot)

Re: Why do I see "Your PC has Windows 8 but the info on this page is about Windows 8.1. Update now" message but I am on

Not necessarily, no. You should be able to change the UA string (though AB may end up re-setting it itself (done that to me a few times)). The following is the registry key you'll need to change; HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent HKEY_CURRE...

Re: Windows Security Alert

You can use either Fiddler, or Wireshark (I use both myself);

Re: Windows Security Alert

You will, yes.

If you do get anymore, make a note of the IP it resolves to (only seen them using their own IPs, but it's possible they're also using others)

Re: Windows Security Alert

Windows Defender doesn't actually have a firewall in the traditional sense, so adding it there won't actually block it. They do however, only use IPs on their AS, so instead, you can add these to the Windows firewall; 23.92.184.0/23 64.94.162.0/24 69.172.216.0/24 70.42.36.0/24 104.244.36.0/22 198.14...

Re: Do a " Chrome only" (classic version)

1. It's not being "killed" by any stretch (and not even close to "death"). Edge is a completely new shell with a "from the ground up" engine, yes - but IE will continue (guessing you've not actually tried Edge yet - it's still got a plethora of stuff missing from it (hence it's still being preview, ...

Re: Windows Security Alert

You can't stop it I'm afraid. Only way to do that is to block the offending domain at the firewall/browser level (I'd recommend blocking *.adsafeprotected.com at the firewall/router level if possible, if not, at the firewall level)

Re: REINSTALLED windows

If you used Online Storage then yes (they should be there when you re-login to the online storage facility in Avant). Otherwise, without a backup, I'm afraid not.

Re: Windows Security Alert

Chances are it's a bogus certificate (without seeing the cert I can only speculate), especially if its randomly. This is usually indicative of a browser infection (e.g. rogue extension)

Can you export the certificate and attach it here please?

Re: Windows Security Alert

If you need the site, then yes (you could install the cert in your trusted root store (View Certificate -> Export then import into the root store), but I'd seriously advise against that, legit sites should be using valid certs)

Re: Windows Security Alert

The error indicates the site is using an invalid or self-signed certificate. It's not specific to Outlook, but to the connection (regardless of whether its via the browser or via the client)

Does this also occur when Avant is set to use the Gecko (Firefox) and WebCore (Chrome) engines?

Re: it's just getting worse!

I'm seeing the same issue here on my test VM (closing Avant doesn't actually result in the avant.exe and avantw.exe processes being shutdown, as they should be). Unfortunately, I only look after the forums and server, I don't have any control or anything as far as the development of Avant is concern...

Re: it's just getting worse!

Just an FYI, in most cases, you can force close the avant.exe, iexplore.exe, firefox.exe, gecko.exe, chrome.exe (depending on the engine you're using) in the task manager to get it working again without requiring the reboot (I see the same issue on a lot of systems).
