I don't think there is a way, unless you're using portable Avant on a computer that has IE7 installed. Avant depends on the installed versio of IE for its page renedering.

Oh, that's a point. Avant wasn't set as my default browser when I did that. I'll try again.

Okay - Yes, it launches Avant for no reason, if Avant is default browser. It's a bug.

I created the same shortcut, but it just opens a new e-mail as it should for me.

What is your default e-mail program?

It belongs to Opera, and unlike Trident it's not designed to be accessed by other user agents. It's available, but only to paying customers.

The one other major rendering engine still available to play with is KHTML, but so for this hasn't been fully ported to Windows.

I think the pulse is saying that Avant keeps opening pages that are empty and have just "about:blank" in the address bar.

To get back to the original point of this thread though, I want to chime in with the warning. It is true.

Microsoft make the operating system that about 90 per cent of people use.

And sometimes, they change it.

We can sue. I'm pretty sure nothing is meant to change ever.

IE 7 install failure.

A friend of mine has an odd problem. I thought I'd see if anyone here had an idea. "Whenever I open IE7, it crashes after a few seconds with an error message saying something about how I have to enable Just-In-Time debugging in Visual Studio." Needless to say, he doesn't have Visual Studio. He's tri...

Sure. Tools > Internet Options > General > Fonts.

ClearType is meant to smooth font rendering; you might like if you tune it to your preference. There's a powertoy you can download from Microsoft. However it only makes a difference on TFT screens I think.

I don't know if this is really a bug though. Perhaps you should suggest it in the Requests forum.

I would guess that this has something to do with the design of your laptop's buttons. It seems it's not made to accept both buttons at once as an input. Perhaps it thinks pressing both at once is a mistake. All I can suggest is that you look at your mouse settings to see if there's anything you can ...

It sounds like your interface language file is corrupted somehow. Or perhaps it's set to a script that your system can't display, possibly Chinese.

Try changing the language. It will be the eighth item on the sixth menu - the one with (T).

It's freezing on the splash screen. I think this can sometimes be caused by security programs preventing it running. What firewall / antivirus / anti-spyware are you using?

There is probably no need to alter any registry settings. Try just fully removing and reinstalling first anyway.
