Re: Avant switch between IE7 and IE8 Final

Will this perhaps be a goal for Avant 12?

Re: Avant switch between IE7 and IE8 Final

Now that IE8 has been officially released, will an official Avant button/switch method be created to toggle between IE7 and IE8 mode. IE8 has the Compatibility Button built in to the right of the address bar that will automatically reload the page switching rendering modes. Has Microsoft provided th...

Re: Avant 12.0 eta?

Chrome's Extensions system will be finished soon and there are already many people with extensions in development for Chrome. And no, I definitely do not count a Mail Client inside the browser as anything good. That is definitely a function that has _no_ place in a _browser_ and it has always been i...

Re: Avant 12.0 eta?

Except that Opera 10 (even final) won't have all the speed. Opera 10 Beta's Presto 2.2 Javascript engine is at least 3 times or more slower than Chrome 2.x/3.x and Safari 4.

I'm very looking forward for Opera's upcoming Carakan Javascript engine to close the gap!

Re: F3 button doesn't work when searching a page

Hi CamelD,

I just want to ask why you expect for Orca that F3 is "supposed to" find the next occurrence, and I assume you expect that Shift+F3 is "supposed to" find the previous occurrence?

Re: Sync function

Really, the USB versions don't support Online Storage?

Is it because the Online Storage data needs a temporary place to store the data and you don't want to even use the harddrive for that in the USB case?

Re: Sync function

Or you can double-click the Online Storage icon in the status bar, ie. the "globe with a green diskette" icon.

Wow...... now that I think about it, that's getting a little old! :-) There's already an entire generation that doesn't even know what diskettes are!

Re: Sync function

You can use Online Storage to access one always synced set of bookmarks from any number of browser sessions.

You can access Online Storage from File menu > My Account > Switch Account and the Online Storage screen should pop up at the bottom. Click "Sign up" if you are signing up for the first time.

Re: innerHeight and outerHeight returning the same values

Problem confirmed; in fact, both widths and heights are wrong! For window.outerWidth and window.innerWidth, they seem to always return the same thing, which I believe is wrong. Shouldn't the outerWidth include the browser chrome/trim and any scrollbars as well? (Also, remember to test with the brows...

Re: Error Console window is stubborn

When following your steps, the Error Console and the main browser window do both restore, with the main window on top, so yes I can confirm because if the main browser was full screen then you would not see the console window and assume it still minimised. Confirmed! The Error Console should pop up...

Re: New Browser:Home page

No, even for IE, the HTML parser/rendering engine is separate from the Javascript engine. Trident is Microsoft's rendering for IE ( unless it is the Tasman rendering engine for IE for Mac, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tasman_(layout_engine) ) IE's mixed up Microsoft JScript/Javascript processing eng...

Re: New Browser:Home page

I think if you you're going to have a fast web browser, with a fast HTML paser, then that's all you really need. Why waste resources on the interface, when HTML's whole purpose is to build an interface? Some people don't realize it, but using a pure HTML interface is actually simplifying the web br...

To me, with this light bulb over my head, it seemed like something very innovative and cool for your browser people to also provide your hosting and blogging services, (optional of course, if you just wanted to go get your own, you would do that...) It seems in my mind, that if your browser also we...

Yes, lefreak, the Orca installation is completely separate from any Firefox installation and will not affect any Firefox installed files. And any configuration changes or bookmarks made to one of them has absolutely no effect on the other browser.

Re: Computer sounds when using Orca

I just activated open and close program sounds, and rechecked Avant, Orca, Google Chrome, and IE8, which are all multi-process browsers. My conclusion is that they are all fundamentally badly designed! Although in this case, IE8 is the least bad out of all of them. For Avant, Orca, and Chrome, there...

Re: Computer sounds when using Orca

One good example of this is Google Chrome. Different processes are opened for each tab. This keeps the main program from freezing and/or crashing if a particular tab crashes. Exactly DrDrrae. A perfectly good example! The different processes/threads in Chrome allow parallel and/or multiple loading ...
