The following code causes both AB and IE to lose focus whether or not pop-up blocking is on. Neither minimizes but another open window becomes the focus and assumes the top. Windows 2000; AB 9.02 build 033 <html> <head> </head> <body onload="this.blur();"> </body> </html> Classic code as used by po...

AB minimizing happens frequently to me when I visit:

http://www.warp2search.net

Not every time - I think it depends on which ads are on the page.

For what it's worth, in my opinion the AB ad and pop-up blockers work so rarely nowadays that they may as well be turned off.

Don't know if this is any help but... Acrobat is very promiscuous. It likes to copy bits of itself all over your system! In particular it likes to install it's Netscape-compatible plugin (nppdf32.dll) into every plugin folder it finds. If you've had different version of Reader installed at different...

Not losing focus but moving in z-order

I have a problem when I open http://www.warp2search.net from the links bar. Sometimes, not every time - I think it must be a function of some of the popup ads on that page (which are successfully blocked by the way), AB retains focus as the active window but moves back down the z-order so any other ...

Re: Unlisted changes

Unlisted Changes Changed Avant to only redirect 404 and DNS errors This is certainly an improvement but still not ideal. Are Yahoo! capturing the information passed to the AvantFind error page? There is no privacy statement specifying whether the information is captured, and if so how it is used or...

Simple workaround for lower-case problem

Mystery, is this working for you? When I try it, it brings up a search in regular Google, not just pages from Australia. I think this is another example of a search string not working because Avant changes the capitalization. I'm surprised that the first one, the one Coolnat posted worked. Either, ...

Re: Photoshop

Are you by any chance running PhotoShop or other graphics heavy programs? If so you might want to look here and add your comments. It's going to take as much info as we can give him for Anderson to track this down. Sara :) Sara, Photoshop is installed (as is a lot of other stuff!) but this problem ...

GDI Resource Leak Revisited

Hi there, I know you're probably all groaning after looking at the subject line! This is a topic that has been touched on many times. However, I never had a GDI resource leak either on my home PC or on my laptop with earlier versions of AB. On the latest version (9.0.2 build 012) I have a massive pr...

Possible

Hi there, It is possible for the Michael to have GetRight exclude certain filetypes even with the new method of catching links. I will send him an e-mail asking if this could be added as a feature. Basically I would envisage him using the ignore servers and filetypes list already present in the GetR...

GetRight 5.1

The old method of catching links in IE does not work properly in Avant Browser (and indeed many other IE-based browsers) because the method used is incompatible with features of AB such as the Ad blocker. Instead of spending a lot of development time trying to cobble together some support for GetRig...

GetRight 5.1 beta 3

This is now out and includes this new method of catching links as standard (can now be disabled/enabled in the GUI).

Also the option to have a prompt whether to download with GetRight or IE works again!

Many thanks to Michael Burford for such a speedy bit of coding!

There are two registry keys for the download manager: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\DownloadUI and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\DownloadUI The latter, if present, takes precedence but Michael is currently writing to the HKLM one. It could be that a...

IEXPLORE.EXE command-line

I have a problem when running IEXPLORE.EXE passing a URL as a parameter (and this also occurs when other programs try to open a URL too). Basically, the first 28 characters of the URL are ignored! So if I enter: iexplore.exe http://www.acme.com/somepageorother/index.html AB tries to open: orother/in...

Yes, in fact...

...any URL you pass to AB via parameters to IEXPLORE.EXE loses the first 28 characters. Nothing to do with percentages signs!

So any program that looks up the shell command in the registry for http (IEXPLORE.EXE %1) will have problems...

Not just Photoshop

Hi there, AB is having problems with any URL passed to it via the command-line that contains '%' characters. For example, if you do: iexplore.exe http://www.acme.com/weirdos%www.microsoft.com AB will open http://www.microsoft.com Seems like if there's a % in there, AB cuts off the first 28 character...

Temporary fix for GetRight & Avant Browser

Hopefully we'll soon have a real fix for GR/AB problems as Anderson and the author of GetRight are working on this together. In the mean time, I've written a temporary fix to this problem which you can download here: http://www.carobert.demon.co.uk/downloads/grdlmgr.zip Unzip it and click the "Insta...

Excellent

Good news,

Michael sounds keen to get this working which is great! Thanks to both you guys.

In the mean time, my temporary fix should now work for those people who didn't have the MSVCR71.DLL file on their system :¬)

Ooops

I've just realised I've left a dependency on one of the .NET runtime components in my DLL. I will remove this an post an update later that doesn't require you to have .NET installed.

Sorry!
