Re: Alternate Browsers Review

Its more like list of 5 browsers to avoid: 1. Avant - no need to write about it... 2. Maxthon - same story as avant or other browsers these days, was better/more advanced in previous versions. Even though it uses webkit, it doesnt support extensions from google store. It is fast and responsive thoug...

Opera browser not doing well

After the latest release which has no new features, and still no bookmark support, a lot more users were disappointed. According to their dev blog, Opera team seems to have postponed all basic features for Opera 18+, which made users unhappy again of course. Someone even made a parody out of it :D h...

Re: Be careful where you click

I've been hearing a lot of good things about Mint. It'll be here on the 30th or earlier and once I get it installed and everything working right I may go ahead and order the Mint DVD, but I've got a few more comparisons to do yet. After seeing what disappointment windows has become starting from XP...

Re: Avant completely bugged in Windows 8

Guess it's time for a new default browser...

What are you guys using as a good alternative? The only one i could think of, with high customization, was opera but now it's ruined like avant. I'll probably go for Cyberfox (gecko) or Sleipnir (blink) on windows 8, couldn't find anything better so far.

Avant completely bugged in Windows 8

I have installed Windows 8 for testing purposes and so far i have found that all applications work faster in it than they did in Windows 7. However, any version of Avant Browser doesn't work at all . Launching avant.exe in any version causes HDD usage to be stuck at 100% and system to not respond. T...

Hope the changelog will be more than just engine update... xiaobing said yesterday that, "As (far as) I know, next build will only fix bugs. No other changes." I replied asking about Gecko 23, but she hasn't answered yet. Here's her post: http://forum.avantbrowser.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=33018#p19...

Re: browser:home - no "snapshot" when add new speed dial

Try deleting cached thumbnails from before. I've had similar problems as well.

They are located in Avant Browser\profiles\.temp\$.thumbnails$ - Delete the whole folder and try refreshing again.

and now repeat them with PaleMoon and you will be suprised... PaleMoon is very well optimized/tweaked even on default. Using all or some of these tweaks help in most cases. In my experience Waterfox was fastest from all Firefox variants (x64) but unfortunately its no longer updated. New Cyberfox 23...

Re: Optimizing Firefox (gecko) Engine

This could usually happen if you have modified hosts file, which has many entries and large size (200+KB). As MysteryFCM said, it is recommended to keep DNSClient service stopped and disabled, and should fix all problems related to it.

Re: firefox rendering extension - Magic actions for youtube

I've had similar bug with Magic Actions for Youtube and NoScript with 2012 b197. Every second or third time i launched Avant, it would open both of these extensions start pages like i just installed them. In Avant 2013 b23 i think this didn't happen but i didn't use it long enough to be sure. I have...

Re: XPCOM

When I try to use the Firefox browser I get a pop-up that says it can't load XPCOM? Any ideas? This happened to me only when i was playing with .dlls overwriting them and trying to update the engine manually. So you probably got wrong version of some dll or corrupted, if it isn't missing. If the out of date plugins message is showing up without reason and you have updated plugins, check the Firefox tweaks i posted here: http://forum.avantbrowser.com/viewtopic.php?p=190740#p190740 Follow the the beginning of first post instructions then change these 2 values: extensions.blocklist.enab...

Re: ---Downloader does not work any more.

You select the largest file from the list, that's most likely the video.

Downloader either works for you or it doesn't. There won't be updates anytime soon, so either turn it off or use another downloader. I'm using the default engine one instead.

How secure is Avant now?

Found this article recently but didn't find anything posted about it here on the forums: http://www.security-assessment.com/files/documents/advisory/Avant_multiple_vulnerabilities_advisory.pdf The vendor was contacted multiple times in March 2012. No response was given after the report was sent. Use...

Re: Changing from using Opera to using Avant

I just found this: Earlier an integral part of Opera web browser, Opera Mail is now available as a standalone desktop email client. It’s lightweight, easy to use and has almost all the key features of Gmail and Outlook. Mails can be intuitively sorted with the help of labels. It supports both IMAP ...

Re: ---Downloader does not work any more.

Always same problems. Downloader needs to get these 2 bugs fixed or it will remain unusable. Even tried addon for chrome from webstore and its same. Problem #1: There's a 10% chance that any (random) archived files you download will be corrupted. This gets really annoying when you download large arc...

Re: Input on rendering engines

I've been a die-hard Opera fan for years, but with the recent direction they have taken the browser, primarily regarding the changes made in Opera 15, I've lost some of the functionality that has made me want to stick with it. Yes unfortunately, opera was always a good browser with lot of revolutio...

Re: Toolbars in different position

Better yet ... could Anderson PLEASE sell the pre-2013 versions of Avant Browser to somebody who really cares about providing a browser which users actually WANT? Then Anderson could continue to tinker with his undesirable AB 2013 build 100+ to his heart's delight and the rest of us could maybe act...

Re: Why does Avant "prefer" the Chrome rendering engine?

I agree with mbrazil. First theres big disinformation on the labels about rendering engines. IE 6(core) and IE 8 are truly lowest possible on memory you can get on browsers, it is obviously so when you switch to them from chrome or ff. However Firefox low cpu/power usage or chrome full featured rend...
