Re: Where oh where

Well.....sorry about that.  I got busy setting up my printers on a home network.....also going to work (the real kind) and taking care of the family.  Pretty lame, huh? This weekend I'll be out of town again (but I'll have the trusty work laptop that I had to take AVANT off of).  I got so sick of ge...

Re: .PNG files?

Hello... I was concerned about that too, however, I'm finding out that we aren't the only ones.  Apparently, .png files have lots of advantages.  I did a search on it and found all kinds of web pages, and just about all of them talk about the advantages over traditionsl GIF images, but also complain...

Re: Access violation at address 72FD334A...

Thanks, Sara50....I was worried because of all of the troubles I had re-installing IE and I was hoping that it wasn't broken.  I did some other research and found out that PNG files are an ongoing difficulty for browsers.  OK...case closed. Now back to the person who posted originally, I have the ba...

Re: Access violation at address 72FD334A...

Ahh..Jay...yes.  Thanks, but that didn't solve the issue.  I'm more worried about .png images...and clearly, when the post is "posting" it's trying to download something.  The image that you pointed to is a GIF image.  This doesn't belong here so I'm really sorry to the original post guy and I won't...

Re: Access violation at address 72FD334A...

Did the .png file in the original post render correctly for everyone, or is it that my browser is broken?  I know this is not related to the error message in this thread, but my browser won't render the image file in the original post. Anyone else with this trouble? Also, I agree...more info needed,...

Re: Java Virtual Machine

Actually, with Sun Java, it tells you directly as it is a standalone program as well with a console.  It tells you the version numbers of all of the moduals right on the consol so it's easy to see. Also, just like Macromedia Flash and Shockwave, I checked and if there are updates for Sun Java, you c...

Re: IE broken after uninstalling AvantBrowser

I know you would like to see this one go away, but I was doing some housecleaning, and uninstalled Avant also.  After that I had the SAME THING...links to blank pages where not even the URL would show up.   Then IE must be repaired...but my re-installation didn't work because of a registry goof-up. ...

Re: Java Virtual Machine

One more....Ok, now I know how to find the current version of VM...I looked it up....DUH. With Windows XP, you must do it from cmd in DOS emulation.  Make command="jview" and you will get the info.  Sorry about all of the trouble...I should get into the habit of looking first, and then asking questi...

Re: Java Virtual Machine

Oh, and Jay...the version status...not LEGAL status.  I just can't find any way of looking up the ACTUAL Microsoft VM version INSTALLED on the machine!  I might be blind, but sheesh...seems easier to find the version of installer on it than that!

Re: Java Virtual Machine

Ok. Guys and Gals....back from Church.  Here is the quote from Microsoft: The Situation As mentioned above, our settlement agreement with Sun does not authorize Microsoft to make any changes to the Microsoft VM, even security fixes, after January 2, 2004. Because of this, we cannot recommend that cu...

Re: JAVA Compatibily bug (Shake)

Cool....can you imagine trying to read something while that thing is shaking like that?  But my set-up is the same...with IE, it shakes for about 2 seconds, but with Avant the screen just goes blank and no shake.

Hmmmmm....

Re: Java Virtual Machine

Hey...I got most of my information from Microsoft's web site looking at a page concerning the lawsuit.  It was posted in February.  They say that they will not be supporting the Virtual Machine after, I think January 2004 and will be looking at ways to separate this part from their software.  Anyway...

Java Virtual Machine

Hello All... Here's a new one, but it's not really a bug...I couldn't think of where else to put it though.  Because of Microsoft's problems with Sun Microsystems and it's Virtual Machine, I decided to install the Sun Microsystems Virtual machine (now Version 1.4.1_02) and use it.  It will continue ...

I believe that this is an old thread, and I'm sure that it will be locked soon.  Do a search using memory leak and also a big thread on CPU usage and you will see a lot of discussion along these lines

Re: Norton AV 2003 and DRM

This must be a new thing with AV2003.  I bought an early version of 2003 and put it on both of our computers with no problems.  They must have just recently added that.  There was no activation or anything on our copy of the program.  Unfortunately, I HATE the whole idea, but I can still understand ...

Re: Ad-aware 6.0 available

Yes, Jay, I haven't tried Spybot, but I have heard good things about it.  I might get it and try that to see.  Some reviewers have said that it catches more than AdAware.  I'm still experimenting with a lot of this stuff...there seems to be so many advantages and disadvantages to different software....

Re: Maybe a memory leak

Thanks for the info.  It DOES seem that, at times, resources are still used after an app has been closed.  I understand that threads can still exist and this will utilize RAM even though the application is closed.  Some seem worse than others..especially poorly written programs. Are there, by chance...

Re: Ad-aware 6.0 available

I have been Happy with Ad-Aware.  The new build is 162.  I don't use the UC-More so haven't had that problem.  It is amazing how much stuff can creep in though, isn't it?

Re: Maybe a memory leak

Hi Snakefoot. What operating system are you using?  I have found that Win98 and Me "collect" memory usage on just about all applications after closing.  I'm sure that IE/Avant behaves just like other programs.  Could you open and close some other programs and see what the behavior is?  Also, are you...
