Re: Winamp Release Updates

Brilliant release - works very well. Bento is a lovely interface, but it is still slower, and eats more memory, than either the Modern or the Classic skins. I tend to use the Neoclassic skin ( http://www.winamp.com/skins/search/?s=c&q=Neoclassic ) - best of both worlds - I get the fast, light skin, ...

Re: Search safely...

Online or not it still looked like a Review to me--if I'm wrong move it back. Sara :) Sorry if I put it in the wrong place, Sara. It's an online service all right, but I guess you could say that was software, just running on someone else's server ;-) I posted it not so much as a review per se, more...

Me too - I wonder why it was so slow for you. Unless they just happened to be doing something with the servers at the moment you tried... Have you tried it again?

Re: Search safely...

How odd :? I just timed it on my average XP SP2 system, using Avant 11.5.21 - just over 1 second to load the Google page, 6.5 seconds to complete scanning. Can't think why it's taking so long for you. Are you on an especially slow dialup or anything?

Re: Reverted to 10.2 52 and wow

I had the RSS problem myself, but I did have 80+ feeds. It's a nice reader, but AB was completely bogged down till I cleared all the feeds and reverted to Google Reader, and reinstalled, whereupon 11.5 became its usual sleek and agile self again.

I've seen a number of posts asking about support for McAfee SiteAdvisor, which I understand is not current supported in Avant Browser. I'm not a Scandoo employee, but I find their entirely online alternative to SiteAdvisor works extremely well. The home page is http://www.scandoo.com/. You can choos...

I tried the Win Safari beta, and it seemed buggy and unpleasant, and not especially fast. Uninstalled it and felt much better

If only for security reasons, I'd tend to go with IE7 unless I had really problems running Avant. Shouldn't affect it really, as it's the rendering engine (Trident) that's being used by Avant, not any part of the GUI. Even the context menu is different (and customisable) in AB 11.5.

I too tried it in IE7 - but still there is no comparison with Avant Browser. ieSpell is just the one add-on you really can't do without, I find, apart from a decent download manager, that is.

Re: How To Place Bookmarks on the Bookmarks Bar

This may cut through some of the confusion - a small fact I discovered when trying to solve this issue msyelf... There is a folder named Links among the folders in the main Bookmarks menu. That's the menu next to File Edit View at the very top of the AB interface - I'm not now talking about the side...

Thanks Denny - I'm contemplating a new, larger HD, which I why I fancied storing everything online! do all the usual backups for my data files regularly anyway, but I cringe at the idea of having to do the whole cookies 'n' passwords deal over again!

Online Storage

I accidentally clicked the "never use online storage" button when starting Avant 11, and now online storage is greyed out in the options dialogue. Any way to get it back without a clean install?
