Uh, whether it's the right place or not, main issue is the desire to get the toolbar working with Avant. (The best feature of A9, the "diary" which allows you to tag comments to a bookmark, is only available through the toolbar, which doesn't install in AB.) Hope this topic (making the toolbar work ...

Popups free of AB window

The lack of this feature is driving me nuts using AB. At least a third of popups I encounter AB can't handle, in the sense that because AB contains all popups within the mother window, popups that are larger than the mother window height are inaccessible. I have to resize the popup window (which isn...

Thanks, Sara, that works *correctly*. Guess Jan0815's link is to the last beta, not build 100 as stated. :?

I visit some photo sites who display enlarged photos in popups. Unfortunately, I have to close AB and open IE (yuck...) when going to these sites because of the non-detachable popups. I can only drag the popup so far and much of the popup is cut off because it's contained between the three rows of t...

Detachable windows

I love the fact that Avant allows small popups, such as the typical assistant popup on some forums. In IE I can move this small window outside the browser frame, so I can position it on the desktop apart from the browser. In Avant, the small popup stays inside the browser frame and won't let me floa...

Thanks, Angeldust. What you suggest is like any other folder in the links bar, but is not a group. Certainly can work in the same fashion, though. I've moved over from SlimBrowser wher Groups were more powerful, more than just a folder of links. You could set groups as buttons, and once selected all...

You could put a link to the Google bar on your links bar and then Google will open in a new page. Thanks, Sara. I'm scratching my head on the link to the google bar in the links bar bit...don't think you mean a link to google.com, but can you elaborate? Other tip worked, but page links are still a ...

Groups toolbar / button

Searched but didn't find anything on this so... Would like to see a groups toolbar available to make quick picks of groups easier. and/or... A way to add a group file to the links bar. I noticed that instead of individually storing the groups, they are collectively kept in a groups.dat file, which ...

This is the only thread I found on this, so I'll lobby for the reverse! I have fifteen tabs open and they stay on one line, unreadable. Each tab has an icon and three letters of the title. I cannot find any options to control the tabs (multiline mode, icons, etc.). Is this how the tabs are suppose t...

Links to new window!

After a year of using SlimBrowser, I finally dumped that in favor of Avant. Main reason was the SB's developer's continued refusal to handle normal popups in a normal way. Avant does that beautifully! But...I have lost several link-open abilities I had at SB! Give and take, I guess, but these functi...

Re: Can't open pages (no personal firewall)

I currently have Norton Internet Security installed.  What problems did it cause? System freezes, crashes, a bunch of havoc...went through about 3 days of tech support and they had me down to reformating the hard drive and reinstalling the OS...at which point I said "no thank you" and got them to t...

Re: Can't open pages (no personal firewall)

Thanks...I might try Tiny, but I've had Norton Internet Security installed on one desktop and it caused major problems...(which cleared after uninstall...including de-listing by hand in the registry).

Re: Can't open pages (no personal firewall)

I tend to agree with you, but I travel a lot...use different wireless/dialup arrangements, and feel better with ZA installed (hey, maybe false sense of security, but better than nothing...)

Re: Can't open pages (no personal firewall)

I tried Netscape7, IE6, AvantBrowser, and SlimBrowser.  The last two would not run unless I had ZoneAlarm active and allowed them through.  Weird, but true!  Also same thing happened trying to run iSiloX for my PDA...wouldn't run through the wireless firewall, but would with ZoneAlarm active.

Re: Can't open pages (no personal firewall)

Actually, I finally solved this.  I ran ZoneAlarm (which I don't normally run because of the router's firewall, but I do use when traveling), and it of course came up and blocked AB...but once I told ZoneAlarm to let AB in, it ran fine (so long at ZoneAlarm is running!).

Cheers,
Gary

Re: Can't open pages (no personal firewall)

The firewall is considered good as far as preventing hijacking...have to trust Norton to protect the rest.  It can't be turned off, and I can't eliminate the router, obviously! The only other thing I can think of is that I have WEP encryption turned on...why that would make a difference I don't know...

Re: Can't open pages (no personal firewall)

Thanks for the reply but sorry, I can't do that...not an option.  Linksys wireless network does not have an option to identify a single program to let through the firewall like ZoneAlarm does...only option is to set my laptop as a dmz host, which opens it totally.  That's crazy. I don't understand w...
